Shipping delivery and custom clearance

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can advise. We sent a few boxes, of personal belongings from the UK. It cost £270+ which and we were told we would have to pay some small charges at this end to collect.
I asked our company in England - Excess Baggage - how much, they couldn't say except to tell us that it wasn't much. I tried then calling the customs authority and the ports authority in Qatar from England but couldn't get through in English.
I assumed it would be a few quid, max £100. How wrong I was.
The shipment has now arrived and we have already paid another £200 + (1127QR) just to get a delivery notice from our delivery agent, which our company back home put us in touch with.
I asked where I can now collect my things, but no answer, all I got was to 'contact a customs clearance agent', which I did, and this person has now informed me that for roughly that volume of contents he will charge me 1800QR, another £300.
I'm livid, the cost of the contents will not cover what we have spent shipping them here. If I had know we would have to pay this much at this end I wouldn't have bothered.
Is there anyway we can bypass the beaurocracy, not have a customs clearnace agent and collect the things ourselves?
Advice would be most welcome here.
Thanks.

Well you can go yourself to the Customs next to the Airport and do it.. If you find it difficult to handle, there are plenty of independent agents at the customs who are very helpful.. but make sure you dont make them feel you know nothing about Qatar..

All the best

OK so we've been duped into paying 1170 Reel just to collect the delivery notice from the delivery agent, now how do we track the shipment and where do we go to collect it - to avoidg being duped again by a 'customs clearance agent'. I have the Bill of Lading, the delivery notice, the consignee passport and ID page (i.e my husband's passport), the packing list - the clearance agent also said I would need a letter in Arabic from my husband's employer (true or another lie?).

Anyway with all these documents where do I go to collect? Please help, we cannot afford to get duped again!

Thanks

Yep, should only be 200 - 300 riyal max. Someone somewhere is not telling the truth.

Customs here will make you pay around 4% of the cost of items delivered.

You have been cheated by wrong parties.. Because, it does not cost you more than 300QR to get the delivery notice.. And you do not have to pay much for the customs.. its just few hundred Qatar Riyals.. Make sure you get in touch with the correct agent to avoid losing more money.. Or you could rather do it by yourself if you are in Qatar.. I have done many by myself..
