1. for slope parking, you need to move up to reach the almost to the tires..then put in reverse to slide down.
Note this is for the reverse light. else fail...
2. borrow from a guy who is reading highway code...the book...glance through a bit...there's no restricted zone or bus lane timing to memorize...so pretty easy...if you sound confident after 2 questions, he will let you go...
3. use the bubble car...toyota corolla (JDM) model 2001 when doing pocket parking...It can go in in one swipe...coolest car ever...
4. when going outside remember to greet and meet, adjust mirrors, wipers blah blah like what you will do in singapore.malaysia...test...don run in curb when doing the small round about...be confident with the stick...and don look blurr...you been driving but that doesn't mean you are good to pass....then when he ask you to stop in the side, put on the hazzard light and politely say thanks...
lastly, look at those who are taking the test, don be the first..study their technique...I made sure the TP gave me a thumbs up before alighting the test car after each stage to have visual confirmation....
then await for you licence the next day....
I did it in the first try...because we need to do some homework.... first..
I failed signals 4 times and examiner allowed me for the 5th time (sameday) and passed L,S & Pocket parking & Road at one go and my car was ordered & picked by the company same day in the evening :)
we are on the same boat, i've got to attend short driving course for 5 lesson, before my test date on 17 Aug...90 riyals gone just for the test and got to pay 900 riyals for the course and another 90 for the retest.
No proper information given in advance...siongz...
I think Japanese licences are recognised too. Cos the Japs in my company got their licences exchanged for the Qatari ones without having to go thru any tests, just like the Europeans.
Yep. As singqat has said.. i failed it even at the 2nd stage. I didn't even have the chance to do the parking. First station was the ramp. I did the normal handbrake way up the ramp and reversed back (cos the top of the ramp is dead end.. not like in SG, you continue driving down the ramp from the other side). He took my paper and asked me to go, and i was so puzzled. Few other ang mos who did with me.. also asked to go after the ramp. No questions asked.. It's quite kelong.. if you're not their student.
Yup, that is correct..5.30am. You are 1st asked to take the Highway code..the red bearded policeman points to a sign and you tell him the answer and after 6 signs or so, he tells you to go.If you fail at this stage...you should not drive at all.
Then comes the next stage of the test..if you do not go for lessons, you will fail, this I can gurantee. The test at this stage is where you are asked to do the "L "parking and then the "pocket" parking. Why the "pocket"parking, I wonder..because it is never done at all if you ever drive in Qatar. You have to reverse into a "pocket".Yup, into a "pocket" and you cannot go forward or backward to get inside the "pocket". And you cannot hit the pole...once you hit the pole, the tester fails you.
So after this stage..you wait for the results..if you pass this stage, your name is called and you are bundled into a mini bus with 20 others for the driving test. This driving test is a "JOKE". You are asked to drive around for about less than 5 mins..you get out of the mini bus into a car and the tester (policeman) points to the right/left and you have to follow his directions.
So after about an hour all 20 of you finshed the test, and you go back to the driving school (also the test center)and wait for the results. The result is announced by someone from the driving school...usually, all the failures are announced first and then the successful ones.
So you have passed the test..you come the next day armed with a e-cash card of 250 to the driving school and hey..you now have a Qatar D/L.
So al in all, the whole test takes about 4 hours from 5.30am to 9.30am. So GOOD Luck to all.
BTW, why is our SIN Embassy not fighting to get our SIN licence recognised by the Qatar police.
qtrthr, I hold a Singaporean Driving Licence and I tried to convert it to Qatari one, but it was not possible. As a matter of fact, I'm going for the driving test tomorrow morning at 5.30am.
Prior to this, the Qatari traffic department require that your Singapore Licence attestated as well as without an expiry date. You have to go to the Singapore Embassy, with the Driving Licence, and NRIC or passport, and the Embassy will give you a letter of attestation. With that, then you can apply for a test date directly.
If singapore is not included on the list of countries w/ international driving standards..then probably you might take a short driving course 1st...Go to Karwa...

I thought only Western driving licenses were accepted in Qatar. My Korean drivers license is useless here!
clear and concise. thanks very much singqat.

Does it mean if you get it attested by the embassy, you can skip all the practical tests and go straight to the actual test?
530am? You're not kidding are you?
Thanks for your lovely reply.I have got lot of information.Ill go to embassy and get attested thn go to take a test at traffic dept.
I wish jamesbond 007 for his success in his tomorrow test.

Karwa is still one of the best for short courses even though you have a driving license in your own country.
If singapore is not included on the list of countries w/ international driving standards..then probably you might take a short driving course 1st...Go to Karwa...
