we are moving to qatar in 2010. My husbands company will provide the rent - which areas will be the best for us to look at - we would prefer a villa. My husband is going to work at the new airport. We would also like to stay in an area where there are other south african too.
Thanks
I have been in Doha for 3 months now and I dont want to scare you, but its SO expensive! When you start converting to rands, it gets ridiculars! There isnt one area that South Africans live, but you should try for an area close to your work, or husbands. Traffic here gets bad. Anything else I can help with, let me know. Would be happy to.
Hi there, I wish you luck with your move. We have been in Doha for 4 months now and I am not aware of an area that is favoured by South Africans. We have fitted in very well with the diverse cultures and I would suggest that you look at an area close to where your husband will work. It is easy to get around Doha, and despite what a lot of people say, the taxi service is good. My wife uses the taxi service on a regular basis when she wants to go to the shops etc. Get a map of Doha and look at the area's close to the airport, I would suggest look between "D" and "C" ring road, there are area's like Al Hilal which are close to the airport, shops and have Villa complex's.
Forget about trying to get into the same compound as other SAners, we're spread out and tend to only get together for social outings arranged by the SASCOM. As for where the best area is, purely dictated by personal preference and best is to not settle for a long term lease initially, get ot know the place.
