Where's the best place to live in Doha that is close to beach, bars, etc.
I am trying to find out the best place to live close to Doha (where I will be working) which has a vibrant restaurant/nightlifescene. I want to make sure when I move to Qatar I have a lot of opportunities to go out to restuarants, bars, cinemas, etc. to meet new people. Any suggestions as to where to live? If you are familiar with Dubai then something similar to Dubai Marina or JBR is what I'm looking for. Thanks. OH! One more thing, what is the cost of housing in that sort of area.
I'm a very outgoing guy, but don't know anyone in Doha and want to make sure I live in a place where I can meet people fast and make new friends.
Things I'm interested in:
Beach
Sports
Restaurants/Cafe's
Nightlife (bars/clubs)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who has time to respond.

West Bay Area is your best pick.
beaches, bars, restaurants.. sounds like Ritz Carlton or Intercontinental Hotel would meet your expectation perfectly.. :)
West Bay would probobly be some what of what you are looking for. But again, Doha is very different from Dubai.
Meant to say members clubs - such as Diplomatic Club - not members beaches! Obviously I am up past my bedtime and need to go to sleep!
Doha is VERY different to Dubai - the majority of bars are in the hotels, same goes for the clubs. The good restaurants are also in hotels....the nice beaches are attached to members beaches, or the hotels! Are you seeing a theme here??!?!? Compound living is probably your best option - villa's cost more than apartments, but if you want to be close to a a couple of nice hotels, mall with cinema then West Bay or Al Dafna are probably your best area's to live in. Accomodation costs are high - but a lot of packages here include an accomodation allowance or accomodation provided depending on the company. If you search through this site you'll get a better idea of cost.
If you love Dubai then really think about coming here. Life here is slower and different, if you want a lot of nightlife and the party scene Doha may not be your best option. I like it here and there is stuff to do - just not the same amount of options as Dubai. Lots of people here head to Dubai for the weekend - so consider what is important to you.
