Qtel is the only provider (for now.) I paid about 50 bucks for my phone and get a hala card for 50 QR that lasts me for months. I consider it a bargain compared to the US.
I left Qatar in Q3/2007, but still can say there is only one provider there QTEL. No choices, no bargain just monopoly...lol! It's the same situation with many other things like public transport, home phone etc.
Not to worry these services are good, they had 3G network since long.

vodafone started now recently.. so now there will be no more monopoly..
