"Selling the Cars" section

Does anyone know why people post some weird ads in "Selling the Cars" section?
I mean, is that for real that someone is selling 2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE with the mileage of 11,357 Km for the price of 50,969 QR?
By the way, photo of the car is taken in some other than Qatar country, or rather is downloaded from the internet.
Here is another one:
Full option used Range Rover Evogue 2012
Mileage: 5 575 Km
Price: 83 736 QR
Pic looks like from the internet as well...
and so on.. I haven’t tried calling them.. Looks like a fraud.. but I am wondering how they are going to trick people? The only thing I can imagine is to collect the emails addresses of those who contact them over the email, in order to sell them to some marketing company.. but is it really worth it?
Does someone have an idea, why on the earth they would waste their time on such fraud?

hmmmm.... how many times does it need to be posted, modus operandi of these thugs discussed to make people really aware of it. Is the price or should I say greed so blinding that one cannot read the most obvious highlighted warning or Quick Tip on top of a classified page which again has been mentioned time and again by many QLers and the Mods themselves at times.

Hi

Here in Qatar, qatarliving is very good platform for us to see things online, share information and much more. All of us need to be more vigilant and share any short of information which could be useful to anyone & anyways. Thanks to QL.

....QL has its warnings clearly posted. It is a free website. Maybe the only thing it can do is make the registration of a new member a little more difficult - it would reduce trolls in the forums and scams.

I saw the post on the BMW and flagged it as a scam in the morning. I do that whenever I see one.

Recently posted BMW X5 2008 model with photos for sale (on 25.01.2013)for only 35000QR, with Qatar registration, I surprised on price and contacted on email to just know what is behind, its fraud, below is reply from seller,

Hello,

The car is in perfect condition, it has never been involved in any accident (accident-free), no technical problems (engine works perfect), no any scratches or dents on the car body.. The car is qatar specs. All inspections are done and all taxes are paid. The vehicle has a complete service book.

I was in qatar for 1 year and now I'm back in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

I sell the car so cheap because I need a car here with the driver's seat on the right side, and the cars are very cheap in the UK.

I want to do business with eBay, because they have a protection for buyers and sellers.

If you want to buy it, answer me and I'll give you all the details.

Subject: RE: BMW X5 (2008) 4.8L V8 SALE

Hello,

Price is 40,000 qar including all the shipping taxes.

The car is here with me in Newcastle, United Kingdom. The car is registered in qatar, it has qatar papers.

I want to use eBay Protection Program for this sale. eBay is the first company in making business on the internet , fast and safe.

Now i will explain you how the deal works.

1. First of all you have to register on eBay and give me your eBay User ID.

2. I will give all the details to eBay and they will start our item transaction. They will prepare the car for the shipping , and the papers and contracts that you must sign. eBay will make all the papers for us.

After everything is checked , they will give you all the details of the transaction.

3. At this point , you must deposit 60%-70% the sale amount to an eBay protected account. The money will remain there for the security of the transaction until you receive and inspect the car.

4. eBay starts the shipping, and you will receive the car in 5/6 working days.

5. After you receive the car you will have a 5 days inspection period to test the car. When you finish the 5 days inspection period , an eBay agent will come to you and you must tell him your decision.

- If the car is not in good working condition/has damages/it is not like described eBay will transfer you the money back and they will bring me the car. Please note that the return is included so we will not have to pay anything extra.

- If the car runs great and it is like described with no damages. sign the papers that the shipping employ will bring you(contracts , titles etc.) . Also , the shipping agent will sign instead of me because i will give him the rights.

The payment method will be bank transfer instead of PayPal.

I will pay all the eBay's costs from here. You must pay only the bank transfer fees(40-50 euro i think).

If everything is clear for you , please send me your eBay user ID and i will start the eBay transaction.

Thank You

QATARLIVING NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING VERY URGENTLY TO STOP SUCH ADVERTISEMENT.

Sadly, we can all be a little gullible. We tend to believe that we can get that bargain that others missed :O)

brit, what 'you too'? I know it is a BS.

My question was how exactly they trick people?

What is their scheme? How they can convince someone to transfer money somewhere, without even seeing the car?

:)

Hi,

I was thinking about that as well.

I really think that people in charge of QL need some dedicated moderators to organize this website and make it safer and more comfortable. because it's the only viable place for online ads in Qatar.

you know what's annoying me is that I am sure that most of us will not be tricked by this stupid people. but it is still getting to our nerves to see all the time this fake ads from fraudsters or even genuine ads but not in the right section such as phones in cars ....

You too ?

There are so many such scams all over the world.

The first warning is the price - If its not realistic, then something is wrong.

The second is the phone number. It is either not given or is uncallable.

The third is the email contact only.

Last and most important for me is the picture of the car. (Look for the back ground and the number plate). The picture is usually out of a catalogue ot USA with pretty background.

guys! pls be more careful and away from this online fraudster, they try to cheat ppl by many ways job offers, selling goods, lottery, prizes etc. more over, they deal with you with emails only and will ask you send advance money thru western union. Pls do not disclose your ATM / Bank card details to anyone unless you make sure they are in Doha and deal with them face to face.

By happygolucky• 25 Jan 2013 12:39

Mostly they would not have any local no. posted and so they bank on the gullible through email contact to transfer them the token amount. If they have posted their local no., worth having a look at the car specially the Evoque.

.....unfortunately there are some who are greedy and fall for their traps. Remit money through western union without even physically seeing the car,

If the price is too good to be true, it probably is...
