Good Old Days
I just can't help but miss the good old days.. When a three bedroom brand new apartment was like 1800 to maximum 2500 riyals per month.. A 2 bedroom maybe 1200 to 1500 and a studio for 800 to 1000. Utilities and food were so much cheaper as well.. It is true the salaries have doubled since then but still it is not enough.. The rents have increased 8 to 10 times.. sigh.. sigh.. sigh.. The good old Qatar..
on the way back from school, I used to buy four licourice sweets for a penny and pocket a few more from the corner shop :O(
in old days, the sun use to rise from the east and sets in WEst...till date, no changes....:)
2 riyals every morning and from that, I used to have one pepsi and two huge samosas or sometimes one samosa and one kitkat. Most of the time my best friend who also used to bring 2 riyals, we used to share.. We used to get one pepsi, divide into two and then 2 samosas, one each, two oman chips one each and 2 small kitkats one each.. Gosh I miss cheap old days.. Can u imagine one large aalu samosa for 50 dirhams only? Now one samosa is 1.50 and much smaller in size..
my old days when Doha roads were empty and no much traffic there I use to go on my bike to play football and had a one riyal in my pocket by which i use to have one orange juice and one kitkat I had no tension to fuel up my car or my belly
The good thing about the "old" days was "space". Now everything is cramped and high rises constrict teh being.
Uk nothing less than that
PP Sherry and Brandy are not for the fainthearted better stick to the one Riyal fish..:)
UK i quit.....lols
Yes, Sherry was indeed sweet. i believe her surname was Amontillado :O)
PP now that sounds very fishy to me!
no its shaari as i have eaten it many times
PP it is definitely Sherry I have drunk it many times!
not sherry its shaari (fish)...:))
britexpat you two timing cheat, You told me her name was Sherry!
loooools brite...:D
In the old days I used to know a girl named Brandy. She definitely was not cheap :O)
yeah QDC has really hiked up haven't they?
napoleon brandy was 45 QR and now it is 72 :(
In olden days, I was young...:)
Not everyone is blessed with increased salaries. And even from those who have received increments, not everyone's salaries still match up with the increased cost of living. I think one of the biggest budget assassins are school tuition fees..truly sky high to say the least!
brit you are right, salaries have increased almost 3 times. these are all signs of development.
I'm afraid salaries havn't increased for every1..only those in big companies.
How much have salaries increased in the same period ?
I'm missing those samosas which cost 1qr for a full pack & pofaki with sun juice :((((
Even the previously cheapo joints have increased prices. Stuff like grilled chickens, mixed grills etc are now not only more expensive but downsized as well..not fair!
We used to go to a this wonderfu Indian restaurant called "Welcome" which has long been shutdown.. There the five of us used to eat to our hearts content and pay a maximum of 35 to 40 riyals.. Imagine, appetizers like chaats and stuff then main courses with soft drinks and then desert and tip included.. Then we had this Pakistani restaurant called Lahore hotel where we had kababs etc and even at Shezan we never paid more than 50 riyals for the five of us but now Shezan is like 50 per head.. Eating out now is really very expensive..
In old days, all my old friends got older....:)
Old days we had less Landcruiser and more Camels...these days more LC's and less camels....:(
rizks 1 QR 5 porotas
brite the pic not visible...:(((
I miss the old days where Adam and
Eve once roamed the earth naked!
- the cost of karak chai in old days was 0.50Dhs but now its 1/- for normal and karak 2/-...
- We use to get 4 Porotas for 1/- buck but now we get only 2 porotas and tat too its so hard to chew tat bloody the teeths comes out while chewing...lol
- the cost of pepsi was 1 and now its 1.50
- we use to get Cream Soda, RC Cola and other soft drinks but now we have more harmful soft drinks...lol
This cant be rizkz... he has got a sexy bald head.
are they still in school ??
My brothers and I all went to the local Pakistani school.. You won't believe how much the fees was.. the monthly tuition fees was like 150 in grade 1 to max of 350 in grade 12.. And now my brothers pay something like 1800 riyals per month for each of their kids and they are in KG 2 and grade 2 and the school is not exactly great but much better than the shitty Paki place we attended..
sadly , most of the pictures were lost in the great sandstorm of '79.
I have found one though... he hasn't changed much.
Still trying to find one of Kareena as a youngster ..
brite pls post the pic here and let al QLers enjoy the olden days....:P
Please don't fib. gypsy gal showed me a picture of you as a baby. You were completely bald :O(
Olden days i had thick dense hairs on my head, but now....:(
sigh
kareena wat abt the job in FFC as asked my KB...:P
I got my first car in 98 and before that I was working since 95 and those three years I barely spent 6 riyals a day in taxi fair. From my house at old airport to my office somewhere near the town center, it was around 3 to 3.5 riyals each way..
Nice thread.... Who forgot the Taxi fares of the old orange taxis ???
kareena r u working in family food centre vegetable section????
Yeah I remember, I used to buy fresh chicken for 10 to 11 riyals for a 1200 gram chicken and now the same is for 20 riyals. Also meat, beef or mutton was like 16 to 18 per kg but now its like 25 to 30 which is the cheapest you can get.. Eggs were like 6 riyals for a full tray of 30 eggs and potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, onion.. all were like 1 to 1.50 per kg. The Indian vegetables were max 5 per kg but now its 8 to 10.
KB the rate of the fresh chicken has increased and the size has decreased...:((
theres a quote and it goes like
I miss the days when:
Boys had cooties
Recess was too short.
Life was too long.
Decisions were easy, to choose by "eni, meanie, mini, mo."
Only skinned knees brought tears.
And when boys were yucky.
Goodbye only meant unil tomorrow.
When your clothes didn't need to match.
The only race issues where who ran faster.
A promise was a high five.
And fun went on forever, without a broken heart.
is there anything else to it or is that it
thats all i could remember
Where Have the Old Good Days Gone? )-:
whatever happend to my life? )-;
The prices of groceries have indeed shot up in the past few years. Today I spend more than double for a weeks worth of groceries than I did three years or so back.
only kuboos rate is still 1 riyal the same then other eatables items increased gradually
We have been staying in the same flat for five years now, and when we first moved here our rent was like 1500QR more than it is now. Before that we stayed in a pest-infested villa back in Gharafa for like 4000QR and it was truly overpriced! I'd say the rent situ is much much better now than it was back in 2007-2008.
Don't worry. You will be able to do so legaly , very soon .. :O)
By the way, there are married couples who prefer to live seperately and have their "own space"
Yes Thanks Kareeena for taking us down Memory lane, I arrived in 2006 it was the Asian Games, the worst time to come to Qatar, everything was inflated, I guess the rent never came down since!
You can still get a good 2 bed apartment for that amount...
He currently gets housing allowance and he stays in a one bedroom apartment for 4000 and I have my own place where I pay 3000 so between us we are paying 7000 because we are not married yet and cannot live together here in this place..
Brit... they are soon to be married..I guess you are invited too..:) or maybe she changed her mind because you said her bf looks old..:)
Yes I do miss those friendly smiles...:)
So you can imagine the kind of change I must have seen.. When I arrived, the skyline was practically non existant.. The Sheraton hotel was under construction and I remember I had gone for its opening with my family sometime end of 79.. The Center was the only shopping center cum family supermarket in town and we used to go there almost every weekend..
They are not married yet remember.
Don't you miss the open spaces and the friendly smiles ?
When I came here..there were no new apartments it was all 30 yrs old...now at least we get good apartments with all facilities...
Why would you worry? your fiancé must be getting a company provided accommodation..
I miss the old days way back 2002. everything are cheap.
Fresh chicken rate increased from 12 riyals to 20 riyals the good new qatar...........:)
I remember te old times. Used to borrow Rizks' bike and cycle through the Industrial area. No trucks. No potholes.
the Villas were spacious and airport staff were friendly.
