PPD test at medical commission

I hve come to qatar 2 weeks back and medical commission found some abnormality in my X ray and rejected my rp test. Then they have asked me to take a PPD test and injected the dose under my skin. After two days, the portion where the injection was given has become slightly reddish. They did the checkup and asked me to come back after 4 days. I hve asked them whether the test result is positive or negative, but the not replied at the same time written "L" on my test paper. Can you please help me to understand what does the "L" means and why are they not responding to my queries. Can I still get the RP completed? Please reply soon so that I can reduce my tension if something is in favour to me.Please note that There no past history of TB for me or in my family. Please help me...

Hi,

I would like to give my recent experience with regard to Scar in X-ray and PPD test in Qatar Medical Commission. I was working in Qatar from the year 2010- 2017 and then i went back to my home country and again came to Qatar in November 2018. After the initial medical test (including blood test and x-ray) i got a message for repeat xray, second time (in room No;28) they took x-ray in 5 different positions, within one day of the second xray again i got a message for further investigation at room No: 99 between 2pm-6pm. I went there initially got my documents sealed from the reception in which they will prescribe for PPD test. I asked the nurse there why i have been referred here, she told me a panel of doctors are examining the xrays of applicants there and they calssified my xray as abnormal. They have given me injection on thursday evening and asked me to show my injected hand part on next sunday between 2pm-6pm at room No: 118. Sunday I went there initially they will collect your documents and will ask to wait there for your turn, then they will call your name you have to show that injected part, if it is swollen beyond 10 mm they will ask for further tests and medication, otherwise they will pass you.If your employer is ready to wait for you incase of swelling more than 10mm then there is no problem , otherwise they might ask you to leave the country, thats it.

I just new here in Qatar. I've done medical check up done 10 days ago. As per report , I didn't pass medical. They asked me to deport from Qatar. That is not fair for me. I don't know anything then I have to deport. At least I should know exactly. I request what happens to my medical. They said my medical is failed. Before I worked in Abu Dhabi , UAE about eight years. I don't have any problem. Now I have too much tension. Someone can advise me or not. I really need help.

Hello,

Please note that redness is not the indication of whether PPD is positive or negative. Induration (which means hardening of skin and underlying subcutaneous tissue) that is considered positive. Any one that has the bacteria but does not have the disease will most likely be positive for PPD. However, x-ray chest will rule out presence of TB. So, redness is not the issue.

Hi all,

There was some abnormality in my x-ray as well; I had to do a PPD two days ago, and today it was read as 8 mm. I'm waiting for their confirmation after about 5 day. I had TB about 13 years ago. Will I be in trouble of getting a positive result? What will be the steps? Will I have to leave Qatar? Anyone with similar experience, please share. That would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Smoha

Hi,

You need to calm down. The PPD test is a general test to evaluate for certain soldiers in the body that fight TB germ if present. The test usually take about 5days for a good results to be obtained. If the diameter of the region of redness is less than 5mm,then you need not worry,if it is 5- 10mm(doubtful)but if it is above 10mm,then it is a call for concern but remember that this test is not accurate. So if you were in the doubtful stage or call for concern, you would have been quarantine for further investigation, but now that they allow you to go and come back on appointment,it properly means they want the 5days to elapse b4 they give your result which properly will be negative, hope this is helpful,Stay calm and blessed.

Dear josma

Relax.....don't worry ..I have gone through the similar situation for my wife and trust me it was very scary and full of tension... But nice the process was complete I felt it was ver easy...well the process says if u have any scar or some infection in your chest then the will first take X-ray in more than one position and once the result comes and if doctors see some abnormalities then they will refer you for further investigation . The investigation generally comprises of ppd test ...for which they will take the reading twice and if it s more than 5mm (redness) then they will refer you to sputum and blood test . If any of the results is negative then they give u some antibiotics for one week and after that they stamp your rp. They only give medicine or deport you f you have any of the tests positive for TB...but Icahn still work and GE your RP

Trust me the medical commission is ver helpful and you need not take tension. Just relax and let the process happen smoothly

All the best ...take care

Thankyou very much richard & knor for the information. But my doubt is first they have asked me to come and show the injected portion after 2 days. Then the doctor had an observation and now asked to meet him after 4 days. I hve also heard that they give medicine for the positive tested people and ask to comeback after 1 or 2 months. Can anyone in this group who is directly employed/dealing with medical commission to give me a clarity when my RP will be processed please....

that is the reason why you have to go back to medical commission after 4 days so that they will know if the PPD is positive or not. they did not answer your queries during the time the PPD skin test is injected because they need a couple of days before they will know if its positive or not.

if they didnt put you in quarantine, it means the result is negative.

we have a worker before who tested positive. they isolate him and sent back home immediately. escorted by the police.
