Would you give a "Push Present"

britexpat
By britexpat

the world is getting stranger and commercialization is the order of the day.

Apparently, the latest fad is to give your partner / wife / lover a "Push Present" or "push Gift" to mark the occasion of her giving birth to their child.

Does it apply for a C-Section ?

Yup, that's why I didn't push for a natural birth with a breech baby Rizks. It's technically possible, but very dangerous. Again, do your research, ask LOTS of questions and make google your best friend. :)

By Rizks• 23 Jun 2013 14:01
Rizks

but in natural birth, if the position of the baby is not right the woman has to bear a lot of pain...and i mean a LOT of pain she has to suffer for the normal birth...

How far along is your wife LLR?

By Miss Mimi• 23 Jun 2013 13:59

Agree Rizks, the government hospitals tend to be more pro-natural births, but the facilities don't tend to be as good. It's really something you need to do research on. Visit hospitals, meet a few OB-GYN's, and make sure from Day 1 you say you want a natural birth unless an absolute emergency.

Thank you Mimi Rizks Dohabunny... :) Ur information is really a good upgrade on my thoughts.. parenting looks so interesting as couple has to deal with all these challenging surprises.

By Rizks• 23 Jun 2013 13:57

its easier and if its in some private hospitals then its 101% the docs push for the c-section.

LLR, no sometimes you cannot prevent a C-section. There are many emergency c sections today, not by choice but to save either the mother's life, the baby's life or both lives. A mother can choose to have a natural birth but sometimes birth plans do not turn out the way they planned it.

Actually Rizks, Doctor's here will push for a c-section because it's easier for them. Don't let them talk you into a un-needed c-section LLR. Do your research and determine for yourself what constitutes an emergency (i.e. breech, pre-eclampsia, mother not dilating etc).

What about present for the Dad? Afterall the fruit of loins are all due to his hard work..:)

LLR, the docs try their best to make a lady do the normal delivery...only in extreme cases if the normal delivery is not possible they will have to do the caesarean upon husbands approval.

LOL LLR. There's not a darned thing you can do to guarantee a natural birth. My son, for example, was breech (feet first) and no matter what we did he wouldn't move from that position, and then when he came 5 weeks early we didn't have a choice but to go for a c-section.

Other reasons for c-sections are if the baby or mother are in trouble (pre-eclampsia, umbilical cord wrapped around the neck, etc) if the mother doesn't dilate, if the mother hemorrhages and the baby has to come out quickly, etc etc etc.

The best thing you can do is prepare yourself mentally that the birth probably won't go the way you want it to. Baby's and the Mum's body have their own ideas :)

Just a quick question..

what determines a natural birth?

I mean if you love and care your wifeyyy , the way she likes it..will she get a natural birth? I mean if she was very happy and pampered all these 10 months

Or it has to do something with their gene or thoughts or daily routines?

If I dont want my wife to have a Caesarean, can we prevent it ??

Also, just to point out, it is tradition to give your wife an eternity ring at the birth of the first child. My grandmother and mother both got one (I'm currently wearing my grandmothers).

There are changes even with a c-section Suli. And there's a great deal of pain with a c-section as well, moreso than a natural birth, or so I'm told. Giving birth is a HUGE thing. It's nice to be given a token to remember it, and how momentous it is. My ring will remind me about that day for ever, even once my son has grown up and has his own life.

Brit, no decent human being "expects" a gift.

A gift is a wonderful surprise..not something to expect...maybe hope for or wish for...but "expecting" one is wrong.

By Sulieman• 23 Jun 2013 11:46

I just know one thing ,, The "Push present" in only given for the women who gave birth normally.

because the reason behind it was to say thanks to your wife casue she handled the pain and to give her a msg that you will treat her as good as in the past despite of the changes down there.

in the case of C-section no changes.

isn't that right?

But the gift is always nice in the both cases

I agree that it has been around, but now its got a name and ofcourse ladies are now "expecting" such gifts.

The concept of 'push presents' is not new. Hubbys do generally gift their wives before or after their delivery as an appreciation that their wives took the pains of carrying their babies and then that of 'pushing' the baby out!!

We didn't have a name for it earlier. Now, some jewellery outlets may have come out with a name for it..most people now would see that they gifted their wives a 'push gift'.

Its pure commercialization to increase the sale of jewels or what wives generally like.

Every decent person should give their partner a push present (and I had a c-section). I got a ring with my sons birth stone.

for c-sections, they could improvise with 'pick present'..as an added bonus, the wife gets to literally pick her present lol..cue dramatic increase in c-sections and male anti c-section campaign groups

If it was C-Section I think she needs a plastic surgery to get rid of all the maternity weight..
