Try vinegar to combat the problem of odour of someone else's armpits.
You may be surprised with the results , tell her / him to apply vinegar on her / his armpits before sleeping at night and let it dry naturally.
Wash it off the next morning.

I have an easier solution
Ask for "Armpit certification" before going in a relationship with a bad armpits smell Girl/Guy. if you couldn't get the certificate, ask for one night trial. :O)

Why not try potassium alum? You can get it in powder form. It's odorless.
No side effects are reported .. It's safe ..
