Hamad Medical Cooperation (HMC) Offer details

By gauravg

Hi All,

I have got an offer from HMC & I have some queries on the offer I received. The offer letter is very short (single page) with not much of details published. It only talks about your basic pay, transport allowance, job title, department, grade, accommodation provided, annual leaves, school assistance upto 21000 per kid, air passage entitlement and baggage allowance.

I dont see any information on the type of accommodation, provident fund, gratuity, annual bonus, probation or confirmation etc.

I would like to see what benefits they offer on various grades (111-117)? While doing research on this I got this link -
http://www.hmc.org.qa/en/employees_careers/why_choose_hmc/working_at_hmc...

What is the salary range for the above grades etc?
Any information regarding this would be a great help.

Thanks

This interview was for the post of Project Analyst. Can someone please tell me what would be the Salary and grade, what about accommodation for family members?

Hi, i would like to ask, i have a salary grade of 108 same offer as zymotic have, I've heard that they are standardizing the basic salary of nurses to 8k plus qatari riyals. Is it true? I already have a visa as well as joining confirmation this June.

Zymotic, that is too low. You should negotiate for around QR7000 basic salary at least. Does your offer letter mention that your accommodation will be provided?

Hi Gaurav,

Even I have been selected for HMC and received softcopy of my offer letter from JVC. On which date had you given your interview and where? Have you received your Visa. Its been more than 3 months but I still have not recieved my visa or heard anything from the consultant. Whenever I contact them they say that at times it takes 3 to 4 months.

Yes, that is quite confusing

I have got a question to:

1)What will be the amount are they offering for accommodating with family & without family?

2)Is grade 113 considered as managerial post?

3)Is there any difference between grade 113 & 114 in terms of job profile & salary as well?

Can you please reply the above queries at the earliest as you can manage to?

4)Apart from salary and benefits....Is there any Annual Bonus!!!

Hi Piper.. lookup Jerry Varghese or Jesseena Marine Services. Both are recruitment outfits operating out of India - and have offices in Mumbai i believe.

I applied through them after spotting an ad in Times Of India.

Guys, i have been selected into HMC as well. My interview was in June in Mumbai, and i am awaiting more details on the offer as well.

But a friend of mine, who has a relative who joined HMC IT a few months ago tells me good things. He says, things are pretty good for him. They gave him acco in a good flat constructed recently - he moved in with family of 2 kids. And hes quite happy there and has been recommending others to try and get into HMC.

Sun, did you join HMC a while ago ? have things changed now ?

True bout the salary though, There is no standard and it really depends on how you negotiate. On hindsight, i got a good grade, but think i shud have asked for more

There is no standard salary here. They are big believers of cost cutting. They have started employing Indians recently, just because Indians are cheap labor. I don't know about how they treat Pakistanis. But grossly it must be the same.

Sun - Would you be having some info on the grades and the related salaries? I would like to know what is the standard salary for grade 112,113 & 114? Appreciate your help.

Westerners stay in separate more luxurious compounds even if they are at clerical level. And they ask Indian doctors to stay next to Arab ward boys. I am not exaggerating. This has happened to me.

For females, to get visa sponsorship for husband is again a big problem. Although they never deny it, but they never do it at the same time. There will be progress if you last in the org for long enuff and lick the right as8es, but come on, why will a self respecting, professional person will do that? Initially you will feel that westerners working their are very fair minded and will help you, but eventually you will real;ise that this discrimination is originally their idea which is implemented by those foolish Arabs.

Yes Sheikhaa I completely agree with you. If I remove the accommodation from this package its not worth for me as well. I will have almost 0 savings. I am totally confused and shocked with the behavior of the consultant and HMC because they are not giving me anything in writing. Moreoever consultant is pressurizing me to accept the offer otherwise she will give it to someone else.

By gauravg• 24 Jul 2013 17:37
gauravg

@Sun - I am also not getting any response in writing from HMC & consultant on the type of accommodation they will provide. It looks strange. It is basically eating up around 30-40% amount I was expecting in my salary but they are compensating it by saying "Accommodation=Provided". If they do any cheating on this front, I would be in a big time mess. I am counting on this offer bigtime.

By .sun26872• 24 Jul 2013 17:29
.sun26872

And the worst part is this is not happening at lower levels. Their managing director, medical director, head of the departments are all absolutely involved in this racket.

By .sun26872• 24 Jul 2013 17:24
.sun26872

They don't reimburse anything. I worked in HMC for one whole year without any permanent accommodation (in their filthy dormitory) . And I am a specialist doctor. So you can make an educated guess what will you be in for. Consider their offer very carefully.

Don't get demotivated, but be very careful. And remember when they don't write accommodation specifications in your offer letter, then don't count it as part of the deal. Will you be happy with the same offer if you have to arrange your own accommodation. If not, don't come to Qatar.

Dear Sun,

Thanks for all your feedbacks. Can you tell me once you sign across the offer letter and send to respective consultant, how we will know all the complete details before joining the company. For example, regarding Accommodation - they have mentioned "provided". Do we need to get any other statements a"provided" something like "provided & also can be reimbursed". Appreciate your response so that atleast we can inform them to change as per our requirement.

Hello Sun,

Thx for your feedback. I understand that you have gone through a bad patch & I empathize with you. Is there anything which you would recommend which can help me stay away from these problems? This seems scary & demotivating.

Raises a big question mark on such a big company like HMC.

By .sun26872• 24 Jul 2013 16:47
.sun26872

No they never give anything in writing about accommodation. I suffered very badly because of this greediness of HMC HR (sorry can't tell you more than this).Later on, I learned that most of the people working there are having fake qualifications and they don't mind HMC cheating them because they are already cheating HMC.Problem is only with honest people.

By jeffthinks• 24 Jul 2013 16:06
jeffthinks

Dear Sun,

Thanks for the response. Are you an HMC employee ? Can you tell me whether do they clarify these points in the appointment letter before me proceeding for visa stuffs. Is there any other term mention apart from "provided" in the accommodation column.

By .sun26872• 24 Jul 2013 15:29

No, they never give allowances instead of accommodation. This cheating is planned and executed at very high level. There is no way out once you get in. Consider your offer very carefully what it means without accommodation. These people recruit Indians only for the purpose of cheating them. If you catch them , they will say they are doing it because they are 'racist', but the fact is this is the way they cheat their employees of big sums.

By gauravg• 24 Jul 2013 15:08

Hello Jeffthinks - I am not sure if they would want to replace accommodation with the allowance. They might have strict HR policies which they want to adhere to.

Only a HMC employee can confirm this.

Question to Gaurav & rest of HMC employees,

I have offered the similar grade like you and in the offer they have mentioned "Accommodation - Provided"

Is there any way that we can reimburse the housing allowance rather than to accept the accommodation provided by them ? Did you came across to know this details, as I don't want to accept the housing provided and moreover I have heard that we can get a decent flats close to the working location for better price.

As I say, they have fixed grades and the pay scales adhere strictly to these (below about a VP level, anyway.) They hire you for the job rather than for your experience, etc. They will give you what they say, but the housing might not be to your liking. All the other benefits not mentioned are covered by Qatari law. Not much negotiating to be done.

Thanks Mandilulur. Are you from HMC? Could you share some more information on the grades, their payscale and benefits?

I would appreciate your help.

HMC didn't provide some of the details because they are standard government mandated benefits, such as end-of-service gratuity. If you don't find it in the letter or in Qatar law you won't get it. As for housing they will give you what they have available for your grade when you arrive and therefore do not know ahead of time exactly where it will be.

@Sheikhaa - I was interviewed in the mid of June & got the offer this week. It took almost 5 weeks for them to turn around the offer.

@Thelonius - I do agree to what you said but I do not have a direct contact with HMC. Everything is happening through a consultant. What I feel is that they do not have answers to all my questions :(

By gauravg• 23 Jul 2013 17:55
gauravg

Thanks everyone. I understand what you are saying but what is the best way to ensure I clarify all these things beforehand. Consultant did not clear this doubt of mine.

I also asked about the PF, gratuity and annual bonus but I didnt get any answer for that as well. He said it is standard & you will get to know only when you arrive at Doha. Appointment letter will be given upon arrival. I will be on probation for 3 months and only after that I can bring my family there.

Is this the regular/standard process for the employment in HMC? How best I can safeguard my family's interest?

Please suggest.

By geometroff• 23 Jul 2013 17:28

The only way they can puck you my friend is through this accommodation deal. your accommodation depends on your nationality. For sure you will hate what they offer you once you are here and then they will "arrange" better one for you if you 'pay-up'. you will start to hate it once you are in the better accommodation as it will be far in the desert and you will need 1 hour to travel one way. And no you cannot complain once you are here. 21000QR for school assistance???? only on paper!!

By .sun26872• 23 Jul 2013 16:11
.sun26872

The whole catch lies in the 'accommodation' because that's the way they cheat you. Once you land here they will give you the the dirtiest and farthest accommodation available so that you will be compelled to arrange your own accommodation (which will be worth half your salary)So in the end you will be earning half of your colleagues and doing double the work . And everyone right from your head of the department to the managing director of HMC are head to toe involved in this scandal.
