release of sponsorship
By arnaudmarosi •
Hi All,
I am after some advise. I have come to Qatar 6 month ago and my family has now joined me on RP. We are all settled and kids are due to start school next Sunday.
I have given notice by my employer yesterday telling me they will not require my services in 30 days time.
I believe it is company policy not to transfer sponsorship. is there a difference between sponsorship transfer and sponsorship release?
should they agree to release it, would I have to exit the country before returning and if so how long would I have to stay out?
thanks for your advice
I agree with Mandi.
Your employer will give you a check list of places to get clearances from, such as banks and other places. If you have a credit card from Qatari bank, that takes the longest, so go to the bank today to hand out the credit cards to them, as they require a waiting period of some time.
If you decide to send the family home first, make sure you cancel their RP before they leave.
And it depends on when they cancel your RP. I'm presuming it will be the 30th. They do not want to keep you on the company after you have stopped working. You have 7 days after cancellation to exit.

Sorry to hear this. Your best bet is to get out of Qatar as soon as you can. Wrap up your affairs, pay your bills, close your accounts and take the air tickets your employers gives. You don't want to give your employer a reason to block your leaving. Go home and search for a new job from there. I know this sounds harsh but this is the reality of the Gulf.

if my contract expires on the 30th of September, how long have I got to pack and move on?
no, your family is allowed to stay here because YOU work here, otherwise they can't.
sorry "live in Qatar"
but if let say my employer is in Dubai, I would not be able to leave in Qatar with my family. would I?
Yes, you can go to work at any GCC country without the need of approval of your employer in Qatar.
would I be able to find work in any other GCC country and work and leave in Qatar with my family, or is this not feasible?
It is sad to hear that. However, if the Company is not issuing NOC/Release you will have to wait for another 2 years from the date of exit as per the present rule.
thanks Justin,
the issue is that the company is not willing to give the NOC letter, and apparently I cannot force them
If you still willing to stay Qatar, then try to find another job offer as soon as possible, negotiate with your employer to give you a little extension and give you lead time to find another job as my former office mate did, my company did'nt cancel his Visa till he gets new job.
Your employer might give you further consideration by explaining your situation. If not then Demand for NOC so that you are able to come back anytime after exiting the country.
Wish you luck.
You do not have time to waste for an appeal, which after all your employer decided to end your employment according to the terms of the contract which you signed.
I went through this, it was middle of school year. It take about 3 months to switch RPs if you have an offer in your hands NOW.
If you do not have an offer or you know the possibilities are slim, start packing and move on.
Remember, a door open when a door close, and this could be the best thing happened to you when you look back in a year or two.
thanks guys,
is there any appeal procedure that can be done with authorities?
That is indeed bad timing. No matter what you call the process, you need to get another job offer, and quick.
Please note that once your RP is canceled, the family RP would be so too.
Transfer and release are one and the same. Ask for a No Objection Certificate (NOC). This will give you a right / privilege to come back at any time should you find another employment here in Qatar.
