Being Gay in Doha - research

Jovahi
By Jovahi

I'm a freelancer looking into writing an article about what it's like to be gay/ lesbian in Qatar. Since this is a very conservative culture - this clearly must be an obstacle for people who are gay and want to come to work here, who live here already and are in a gay relationship or want to start a gay relationship, or for locals who are under cultural pressure to conform to certain beliefs and social norms where being gay is completely not acceptable.
Anyone who would like to comment or share their personal stories whether Qatari or expat can be sure that I will not include names or any details that would identify the person or people involved. I'd just like to share this story with readers. Email me at [email protected] so we can chat about it.
Thanks!

I am not going to argue with you on this Boxbe, as i said, I sure can tell if someone is gay. Why are you so defensive by the way? Did I hurt your ribs?

Gays in my country are given :p

Gays in your country are hiding so as the gays here.

You don't need PH.D to detect what is obvious.. And for 8 yrs in Mid.East, i sure can tell they are locals.

If you see their body language you can really tell they are gays..

Looks like u have done PH.D in gays..rofl..:P

Why so interested in locals//why not talk first about the gays in ur country which are more in number

Btw llr is right...catching hands or making 2 or more friends does not mean gay

Janney i being born here never saw such a thing where locals are being more feminine...probably those would be gays from ur country pretending to be locals or maybe they are mocking at u people

uhmm, no, they are walking more feminine than a woman, holding a cup of coffee or whatever with their pinkie up. While sitting with legs crossed like ladies, they bend forward straight bodies. Some of them even wears light make ups.. Try to go to cinemas on late nights, you will see them..

Other than that, i should know who they are, i told you, right? ;)

You mean, walking together with hands in hands?

By Janneeyy03• 7 Sep 2013 08:37

NO LLR it's more than just 2 guys coming together. If you see their body language you can really tell they are gays..

Of course there are, but it does not mean, they are gay if two guys come together, its not kinda date or something..

Haha Zafirah, Turbo.. as i was just as hesitant to ask that question, you raised it up.

Haha

So what do you do with the gay Qatari's then?

And don't say there aren't any as there is a massive gay scene in Doha

If you want to publish your article in Qatar...forget it! Here nothing goes to the press without the approval of the IB ministry.

If you got lucky and your article got published, there'll always be a chance that the authorities would try to get in touch with you for obvious reasons.

Yes. To make it more genuine she has to share her proper identity or blog or previous works.

Johavi, since homosexuality is illegal in Qatar I would be very surprised if anyone were so indiscreet as to email an unknown person with details of an illicit act. But, hey, I could be wrong! There could be some very foolish people out there!

i remember GAY = Happy or Jovial before it was hijacked..

in this sense, the original post is actually really rather funny and somehow seems even more applicable (and stereotyped) than intended:..
