One of a million things I do not miss... good luck to all hunting accommodation or being forced to do so soon.
I guess that's the standard here. All the houses i've rented so far have the one month security deposit as well as half a month commission for the broker (Even when you do all the work yourself). Only very few do not take this commission and of course if you are dealing directly with the owner, which is usually not the case.
Brokers have no Principle!

recently happened with me also .i got one from qatar living i went to see the disgussting partioned home.he didnt mentioned on QL regarding any commission but in the last moments when i went to pay him one month deposit , some one else came with another three Egyption men and said.
i need one month deposit + i need one month rent + he needs
half month commission.
and deal eneded up with fight.
so plsssss be care full and do not go for brokers.
