Hello Everyone moving to Doha soon

Hi Everyone My Name is David

I am moving to Qatar soon from England and would like to introduce myself. I will be working for an engineering company as a mechanical workshop manager and I will be looking to make new friends (I am 43). I have been looking at your posts on the forum for a few weeks now and found them very helpful. I have had an offer which I have accepted and returned . Just a couple of questions what would the average salary be for this type of role so I can see if my offer of 30k a month exclusive is a good one and how long can I expect to wait to mobilise now that I have agreed to the offer. Any help and introductions would be greatly accepted.

work visa can be issued in 4-5 days, if they already have a quota for you. If not then don't expect it any earlier than beginning of November, as Eid is coming....

In the mean time it's best if you can get driving licence there.

If this is basic (trasport/gas and housing are provided), this is OK. Otherwise, you will not be able to save.

Tickets are normally provided including your dependents.

MANY THANKS Mandi

Please do get a driver. Doha is not a place to learn this skill! And no, Qatari isn't the kind of place to make "under the counter" offers.

I will be moving alone as we are not married yet. Also I will need to Pass a driving test or get a driver when I arrive as I dont hold any license at all (is ther an under the counter route to speed this up?) if not how long will this process take. below are details of my package. in the job offer it listed salary as exclusive of the following.

Housing by ***

Car & petrol by ***

Ticket by ***

Health care by ***

Bonus performance related with minimum of one month salary.

End of service as per Qatari Law.

Leave Cycle once every 365 days of service

Many Thanks

Hi David. I've recently thrown myself in the deep end myself so am probably well equipped to give you a quick run down on things a newbi should know.

Probably best to email me directly as well as putting some details on this thread: [email protected]

Firstly the salaries are good compared to the UK, the downside is some of the expenses you will incur.

Based on the fact that all you will have is what you can carry in your suitcase then you will need to spend a bit of cash kitting yourself out with the essentials.

Accommodation here is expensive unless you share with other guys which is common and the norm.

Are you bringing family or kids?
