Teams ready for upcoming Red Bull Flugtag
The first Red Bull Flugtag in Qatar happens next month at the Museum of Islamic Arts.
The 46 candidates that will compete were selected from 135 teams who presented their sketches, whereby the choice was based on the creativity and uniqueness of the designs.
Here is what BatBrick, one of the teams, had to say:
1. Why did you decide to enter to participate in the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Qatar competition?
Qatar is a country where many different cultures from all over the world come together, work hard and play hard.
Friendships are forged that will last forever. When the opportunity arose to become part of the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Qatar, we as a group of friends, jumped at the opportunity to join in the fun and the adventure, of building something that is so far from the beaten track, unique in its purpose of fighting crime, and be a part of an awesome experience in the City we live in.
2. What does the design of your flying machine look like?
In essence, the whole theme of our flying machine is centered around the Batman theme.
But in a radical move to evolve the batmobile we have combined the land an air capabilities and construct a machine that is superb in any situation it may find itself in………….Its black, looks like a toothpaste tube and has an awesome tail……….
3. What made you choose this design?
From the beginning the discussions around the design reflected the team’s passion for animation, superheroes and futuristic themes.
Through various iterative discussions and a phone call to a creative consultant in South Africa, the theme was chosen.
What makes the design very unique is that there have been quite substantial changes to the batmobile design through the decades to fit the fads of the period.
The BatBrick is therefore a further evolution in the batmobile design, where the current trend of having two separate machines, the batmobile and the batwing, is discarded to present a single multi use vehicle that is both suitable for land and air.
4. How far do you predict your machine will fly?
This is seen as in fact a trick question. One does not ask how far the BatBrick will fly.
The bigger question is will the villains be able to get far enough away to not be reached by the powerful force that is in fact the BatBrick………at least 1- 5m………
5. What do you want to achieve on the day of the event?
Team BatBrick consists of four members from four countries and four different cultures.
We do not believe we will break the world record because again the machine is purpose built to fight crime and not compete in anything else but having a WOW factor that will take the spectator’s breath away.
We are however taking part in the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Qatar to have as much fun as can be had by Batman and his arch enemies. It is our mission to amaze the crowds and show everyone that good will always reign supreme over evil.
Is your team also competing, or do you know anyone who is?
This can't be right.. He did not ask for World Peace..
