Region-free DVD Players?
I bought a DVD player at Lulu yesterday, assuming it would be region free because I read somewhere that all the DVD players in Doha were so.
Since there are so many visiting cultures here, I assumed this was the case.
However, this player is not region-free and will not play any of our discs from Canada.
Where should I go to get a region-free DVD player? Does Lulu sell them because I probably need to exchange (no refunds here it seems - also an oddity I am becoming accustomed to).
Thanks everyone!
How to do it?
1. Open the CD tray (eject button).
2. Push 0 (Zero) 3 times quickly in a row.
3. The region selection menu should appear (if not, go back to point 2)
4. Type 0 (Zero) at the region selection menu to set your DVD Player free for all regions.
5. Hit Enter on your remote control
6. Shut down the player
7. Start your player again and enjoy DVDs from all regions
That's it.
For other Players try the descreptions on this french page:

Tks e46, i already sent an email to LG but still waiting ... I will try to go to the store where i got the system to ask them.
I think you're trying to play a DVD with a region code that is diferent to the player's. Maybe the player is not a multi-system one.
The DVD world is divided into six major geographical regions, with two additional regions reserved for specialized use.
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Resevered for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
Contact LG here and see if they can help.
It is a LG DVD model LH-T551, when i tryed to watch a movie, the dvd started reading the cd and then showed me the message "Check Regional Code", i have no idea what is that.
Code for what? Provide model of your player.
I just bought a LG DVD but is not working, apparently i need some code from LG but i dont know how to get it, please help me if any of you know the code or what i have to do :)
I also bought a DVD from LULU and the same thing happend. I went back and told the salesman, he game the codes and now everything works .

Well, this Philips one cost QR.230 and I consider that cheap for a progressive-scan DVD player with DivX, WMV, MP3 etc. etc. playback. With the newly reset regionless operation, suits me fine!
How much can one expect to pay for a DVD player and where is a good place to shop for such things in Doha? Thanks.
You are welcome, most of my advice is worth what you pay for it.
Thanks to Helloqatar!
I found a remote code on this website:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
Player is now "Region 0", i.e. region-free.
Hooray! I don't need to negotiate parking traffic at LuLu again! :oP
Mine was an LG but it worked with the remote control codes and now plays everything. If I couldn't get it changed LuLu said they would fix it, so you have a backup plan.
Helloqatar - it's a Philips DVP3000K. I just found some information on www.videohelp.com, thanks for the tip. I'll try when I get home tonight (remote control code entry process to set region 0).
Qwerty - yes I know they're illegal but I figured it was common here becuase everyone's from somewhere else and my 200+ movie collection is Region 1.
Qwerty and Niceguy - Thanks for the tip that they can 'fix' it for me. If Helloqatar's suggestion and videohelp's process doesn't work, I'll box it up and take it in.
Cheers all.
My Samsung DVD player was fixed to play everything when I asked the guy in the shop to make sure it could. Take it to Lulu and do the polite but firm bit.
I have a sony and a samsung and they both work fine region free...
What brand, I found the codes on the net to change it to region free. Do a little research and see what you find.
Region free DVD players are strictly speaking illegal, which is why DVD’s are region coded, in order to try to prevent piracy.
However, if you had asked them in Lulu to make your player region free they would have done so. I suggest that you take it back (with the receipt) and ask them to do it for you.
