Someone Special

What are good places where you can hang out with your special someone. When I say good places I mean romantic spots (ambience, food, service). Places which can be visited several times in a month. Please don't mention 5 star hotel restaurants or coffee shops.

Thank you so much Qatarcat, Xena, Super7, Angelo and Butterfly. I am new in Qatar and you comments were really helpful. I will definitely try something original and surprise her. After all she is special!!

This happens very often... you go one night and it's great, you go another night and everything is wrong :^) I've heard a lot of good comments about Italian Job, and so I went with high expectations which were not met in any which way. Friends tell me it was an accident, but first impressions really count :)

Super7, try Bukhara next to Khalifa tennis centre. I like the food there. Maybe you will, too.

Taj Rasoi in Marriott is great.

QatarCat where do you get all the amazing indian food? So far I don't think it is all that good espconsidering the large number of indian expats here.

Know anywhere that delivers (apart from CAravan which I think is terrible).

Yup Chingari is good. however, there is SO MUCH great Indian food available in Doha for a fraction of Chingari's prices, it's a total waste of money (IMHO). And sushi restaurant in Ramada is the most expensive one, too, and not the friendliest of places.

I think Ramada Chingari and Sushi restaurant are very good though. A little expensive but good nonetheless

Angelo, MY BAD!! It is a 4 star. I dunno why I thought it to be a 5 star. I do agree on the bad service remark. And rooms are pretty horrid, too. Oh, and the worst lobby ever.

Cheers!

PS. You live, you learn.... :p

Hello Qatarcat,

are you sure that Ramada is a five star hotel. I was given to understand that they are a 4 star business hotel. Besides I find their service lousy. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Cheers :)

Hmm I would agree with Super7 on the Italian Job. I wasn't impressed. Besides, Ramada is a 5 star hotel.

For a smashing Italian I prefer Il Rustico, Za Moda (which is in a 5 star hotel as well), Biella.. OH YESS! Biella in The Mall could be a great option. It's pretty romantic :D

food is "out of this world" at the Italian Job!!!!!????? Are you kidding? They do a great line in cheap wine (the 2 litre bottle is named "Vino Collapso") but other than that it is pretty average IMHO.

Desert is good but pretty hot now.

Better is open sea. Get a speedboat and zip to Safliya (sp?) only 10 mins. You will be on your own very nice

Now that's a stunning idea Butterfly...... you are making me long for Qatar..... Just wish my plans would come together now so that I to can go for a picnic under the stars.

Another nice place is the Italian Job @Ramada Hotel. They have a talented singer there, and the food is out of this world....

Try and come up with something original though..... your lady will really enjoy it.....and it will be even more special because you thought of it and set it up.....

Have fun.....

Why don´t you take her to the desert and prepare a picnic dinner under the stars?

If it is a restaurant you are after (since you mentioned food and service), the best ones are definitely in 5 star hotels, and you don't want to go there.

One nice place which has good food and if you don't mind arabic ambience and the smell of sheesha - is Ras Al Nasaa, or the red brick castle on the corniche near Museum roundabout. I like it. Food is great and reasonably priced, and if you go to the family section - you'll be treated to amazing ambience and very cushy sofas and armchairs :) Menu: go for the Arabic. There are other options, but I daresay international cuisine is not their forte.

Another place I quite like is in a 4 star hotel (and you haven't outruled those). Try Il Rustico in Rydges Plaza. Lovely Italian restaurant, and atmosphere is great.

If you are into Arabic - Layali is one of the best there is, on Salwa road. Next to it - a nice new restaurant, Neo - anything from sushi to you name it. Both places are rather pricey, and while Layali is worth it, Neo is a little over the top in pricing (I think). Another nice arabic restaurant is Assaha, on Grand Hamad road. Themed as a Lebanese village, and menu is very original.

Unfortunately, Doha comes rather thin on romantic places out of 5 star hotels... Neither of the spots I mentioned are very "romantic" in my opinion, but would do the job.
