What's That huge tower at Kalifa Sports City

Can someone tell me what that giant tower being built at Kalifa stadium is. It's just getting taller and taller. Will it be open to the public when finished?

That structure will NOT be used as a hotel for the Games. It's purely for looks, at that stage - the internals won't be ready till 2007.

just hard to be optimistic what with all the chaos right now to get everything done.

Bajesus. Have faith.

The hotel will be ready for occupancy soon enough.

That is if they complete it on time which is unlikely.

It might be opened to the public in April, 2007.

It might have a resturant, a hotel,

No swiming pool? Are you sure AA? Although I would suggest you to take your swim shorts when you go to the health club at level 19 on top of the 5* hotel because you will actually see the cantilevered swimming pool coming out of the facade at 100m height!!!

FYI, the general contractor of the project is Six Construct, middle east branch of BESIX, belgian contractor:

It's true though that only the 'external part' of the project will be completed for the games... Hotel+ health club+ presidential suite+ sports museum+ revolving restaurant will open mid 2007.

Its right, it will be an Hotel. But no swiming pool.

I overlook part of that area. It will not be open for the games, they will make it look nice from outside, 500 labour will have access on daily basis while games are going on. But will be higly secure that zone.

And the tower/hotel have nothing to do with the games.

Will open to public later in 2007.

There used to be stuff about the tower on the website of the contracted construction agency. I have a screenshot, but I couldn't find it online anymore (perhaps because they don't want to spoil the suprise and perhaps because there still seems to be a hell of a long way to go). The screenshot is now posted under the photos section (new buildings). I'm sorry if it's hard to read...

Thanks for the link Bru. Pretty impressive, almost 1000ft. Is the surprise going to be that it is ready in time? LOL.

The tower won't be completed by the Games - mainly because it was never *meant* to be completed for the Games.

Perhaps they are, even, still on schedule, then...? :)

the tower today and imagine that only one year ago there was nothing but a hole in the ground.

The games will start in 5 months.

Yes I agree, there is still a lot to do but they will make it.

I hope so...

Actually, I know a lot more about this project but can't talk about it... it's a surprise! :-)

You'll see in a couple of months... it will rock!
