Words of Advice

Don
By Don

Well its official.  I start in Doha with QP on Sept 01.  My family will follow later (probably January or February).  Any words of advice for a "newbie"?  Things I should bring (or not bother to bring) from Alberta? Canada?  Things to get ready for the family when they come?  Clothing?  Whatever?

Any and all advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll get more. Don, it should be easy to remember your name. I'm coming for Sept 1 and I'll be at Qatar Petroleum. I'll send another e-mail to you directly.

e46M3 thanks for the comment about the liquor. I guess I just figured that if it was for sale there you'd also be able to bring it in duty free.

For the rest of you, I'm still interested in whatever you have.

Don't bring any liquor, on you or through freight with your belongings. Not even miniatures!

We are from Calgary orginally. When are you arriving and what do you do. We should talk.

e-mail if you like, I probably can help with some questions.

Welcome to the land of peace where all goes in slow motion but still goes :) First, u don't need to bring any heavy cloth but lots of suntan lotions. We have everything and u will see that in the first few months before ur family arrive. What I know from the Canadian guys I work with, it's better to do not bring much n just buy it all from here. So just come in and join the fun. Sept is a good month but watch out for Ramadan as it will start on Sept 24th. We have some customs related to this month and u may need to ask what they are once u r here, to avoid getting in trouble. Other than that, all is fun in Qatar.
