For malayalam channels its a one time investment because these channels are free of cost. So you get charged one time for equipment purchase, installation and tuning. then there wont be any problems. you get all the major channels except Surya tv....about 6-7 channels....i guess.
thats nice and infirmative mizz i think you have coverd all the indian lanuages i wanted on TV.anyidea what all malayalm channels they are airing?? is dish TV a onetime investment
You get all indian channels including malayalam channels on dish so that would be a better option. If you are looking for Hindi channels also then you can get a Pehla card from official dealers. One of them is Qatar Multi-Tech. When you get here just call up on 4353513 or 4353565 and they will tell you further.....or drop a mail on [email protected]
the local telecom company Qtel offers both cable tv and internet services.
Qtel's cable tv is crap..so don't get that. If you buy a satellite dish you'd find about a handful of free-to-air english channels..but not particularly impressive. Alternatively you may subscribe to either "orbit", "first net", or "showtime" (i prefer the latter). As a general rule that should cost you anything from 120 QR - 300 QR monthly depending on the package you opt for.
About internet..Qtel's internet service isn't half bad..but it is very heavily censored. They offer both dial-up and DSL connections..but most people get DSL. The packages are:
512 KB = 200 QR per month
1 MB = 300 QR per month
2 MB = 400 QR per month
the modem and installation are usually provided for free, but if no promotion is going on at the time they should cost you an extra 350 QR (i think).
