Question to expats
I heard that it is recommended that you register your contract with your embassy in the middle-east. Even on the Canadian government web site, they recommend for people working abroad to contact the Canadian Embassy and register their contract in case of a disbute.
For Canadians working in Qatar, do you recommend such thing?
Thanks
So my question is more specific to Canadians now, have you registered your contracts with the Canadian Embassy. I hear you have to do it with the embassy in Kuwait as Qatar doesnt have one
What kind of questions do they ask?
Does it have taxation implications?
Thanks
The reason for having your contract registered with any embassy was
so the employer does not dupe you - in terms of changing your benefits once you come here.
If you come to work for some smaller companies, they sign a contract in your country and then change it and make you sign another one which is to their benefit once here.
There are some people who come here and then find they have to pay for medical, the allowance given for housing is not enough to meet the actual expense, working hours are revised without pay, visa charges are deducted, airfare charges deducted etc etc etc
The registration is to protect you against corrupt sponsors / employers.
I heard that for Canada that Tax and outside embassies are not in touch, meaning that they dont disclose that information to Revenue Canada.
I also heard that there are lots of problems that can happen and unless you had registered your contract with your embassy, you wont be able to get anywhere
I want to know feedback from people who already contacted their embassies
Thanks
Will that mean that your embassy will know your real income? i mean for tax purposes. Not that im advocating breaking the law :)
Of course, why would you not want help with a problem. Contacts seem to be broken on a regular basis so any help would be a good thing
