Visit/Tourist Visas
I see from today's online "Qatar Peninsular" that visitors/tourists will shortly have to travel to Qatar via Qatar Airway, possess QR5,000 upon arrival (or a valid internationally recognised credit card) and have a hotel reservation.
Could this be an "own goal" on the part of Qatar?
How will they cater for visiting relatives staying with family? Full details on the following link.

Listen "doll" If ya wanna live in the twenties, I can arrange for the mob to visit....lol
looks like some digging in the archives. Hopefully we have gotten out of that rut and confining such rubbish to the promo pages.
I love their overuse of the word "hooch." (e.g. here: Hooch-selling gang nabbed.) It makes me feel like I'm living in the 20s.
Really, though, I think a lot of the vocabulary usage is just more influenced by Indian English than British or American.
I particularly like this bit
"Our beloved customers really loved the great idea of getting a share and save family pack that was really reflected in their comments and feedback and which was also clear in the high sales volume of the family meal, he added
Super7,
I was waiting for killerbee to pick me up on the spelling!
"Oh yeah, the PR events and perfume launches that mke it to their main pages."
What, like this breaking news? ;-)
Thanks for the tip. Matter of fact, we have tried to dig and find out how banks like IBQ, Commercialbank and stuff get these awards. It's a well-known fact it's due to advertising. But as I may have mentioned earlier, could get Woodward and Bernstein here and couldn't write a thing. Not when the Foreign Minister owns IBQ, Commercialbank is prtty much his as well, ditto Four Seasons and Qatar Airways. Cross the locals at your own risk.
Stories that are not written or simply spiked because of interference, could use up a deacde of newsprint.
As for felicitations, LOL, not a word I use.
Felicitations - not very often. They also use strange slang such as "gave the cops the slip" on occasion
killerbee I have some copy for you. Why don't you do a little journalism and research the awards such as Bank of the year and best bank in middle east from the banker magazine instead of just giving free advertising.
You will discover that the only way to achieve these awards is to buy the most advertising in the magazine. It is not a real award at all. Surely this sort of information is what people buy newspapers for?
It's copy written with the aid of a dictionary.
When (apart from in the Middle East and particularly Qatar) did you last hear anyone use the word falicitations?
after big bro kick little bro's @ss of course
cos big bro take little bro to airport (when you misquote him) and little bro go home.
Boo hiss at Gulf Times and their coverage of only events held here related to the sub-continent and nothing else. Oh yeah, the PR events and perfume launches that mke it to their main pages.
But competition ahead, Qatar Tribune is expected to hit the stands on September 3.
Doubtful Qatar has the market to sustain three English-language papers.
Well back to work and try to churn out some copy. Aaaargh, why are people unwilling to talk to the media here without bein scared of Big Bro?
Gulf Times is the same, Super. I guess they get their kicks from thinking that their language is complicated enough. No native English speaker I know writes like that.
why do the writers from peninsula often use really long and antiquated words when a short one will do?
I get the impression that everyone sits with a thesaurus on their knee trying to find something to make their article sound "professional".
Sorry about the typos but that's what they are. Not a sign of idiocy if you get my drift.
Any errors you se in the paper, please feel free to contact our worthless desk. Even we reporters have a good chuckle at the howlers they come up with!
Typos (typing errors) do (or is it does) happen...kind of hard to fly thru (woops, through) the keyboard in office.
As for errors in The Peninsula, well we have an almighty desk allegedly to fix these things. Gets frustrating at times.
As for your comments, found them pretty funny (no kidding). All taken in good spirit of course!
You seem to be quite a jounalist killerbee. I presume you write for the English version of the peninsula, I didn't think there was a non-english version but judging from your post I would have to conclude there is.
I assume that this rule doesnt apply for the 33 or so "visa on arrival" nationalities.
lose not loose
Anything enjoyable in life either immoral, illegal or fattening.
If you have to arrived in Qatar by Qatar Airways (as a tourists), i should say other country should do the same as well. So QR flight won't be ablet to take anyone to other country.
So, mr.writer, i take it your fact in the articles is correct? Hubby just spread the articles to the whole QP departments.

If they proof-read then the paper wouldn't be as amusing
Killer bee...
Honestly you are about to loose a possible customer with your typos...Granted that I am equally prone to typos..but for Gods'sake you are supposed to proof read..Right??
Actually I wrote that article. there's heaps of confusion here on vist and tourist visas. However, the cash amount is an incrase in what I think was Q3,000 earlier. As for Qatar Airways that has always been there. have to keep the monoply going eh?
And hey, thanks for rading The peninsula! Y'all pay our meager salaries!
The rule appears to be only valid for "Independent" Tourist visitors arriving in Doha or Hotel Visa Tourist...
It does not appear to apply for family visit visa travellers(But I could be wrong and appearances can be deceptive)..
The saving grace seems to be that you only "SHOW" the credit card or the money...(not actually deposit it)..
