School Bus Driver Flees

In case this didn't make it into the English-language press this was in yesterday's Al Raya.

All I can say is wow, great kids and even greater parents and a VERY BRIGHT future!

Here's the brief:

An Indian school bus driver taking students home from Khalid bin Ahmad elemntary school parked the bus on the side of the road, disembarked, crossed the road and hitch-hiked on a truck headed in the opposite direction leaving 25 students unattended.

2 police cars arrived on the scene and secured the bus until alternate transpot was provided for the students.

Parents called the actions of the driver "irresponsible".

However, the School's transport supervisor said the driver had been violently beaten by a group of students on the bus after he refused their requests to stop at a grocery to buy juice and sweets. He added that the students vandalized the bus, hit the driver with anything they found handy and threw missiles at passing cars.

He went on to say that this isn't the first incident of its kind; last year another driver was beaten and forced to stop at a grocery.
