The Torch
I went to the Stadium area full of enthusiasm to check out the new lamp posts and the Torch.
Was i in for a dissappointment? The street lights create a tiger print on the road, now its bright now its dark. I was so hoping for it to be a true landmark, but it was a total let down. The usual street lights would have seemed much better.
Then i saw the torch and saw its lights, dim lights. Went a bit closer hoping it would be a bit bright up closer, no chance of that happeneing. the pink, blue and whatever other colour lights are so unattractive.
The torch stands out during the night if properly lit...during the day its just a structure that stands as a witness to the Asian games.
Am i the only one dissappointed by this, or is someone really happy with it?
i enjoy reading your comments terramax.
you have a different sense of humour.
Actually these lamp posts were developed on request of Udai Hussein. He used them to hang the members of his Olympic team who dared not to win a medal. But with all the turmoil in Iraq, I beleive DAGOC got them really cheap second-hand.
wedding houses are lit more brightly than the peace tower(is that what its called).
i feel it would have made more sense to have lights arranged vertically upwards instead of the horizontal way its arranged now.well hopefully during the games it will go faster and faster...but not in the colours its got on right now.they are just boring.
thursday night most of the lamp posts had only a few lights on, the others look like they had gone dud.hopefully during the games they shud all work fine.they all looked like flood lights.
They are crude, simply ugly and absolutely inefficient. They look like something from the Dollar store. Are they supposed to represent something athletic? It is hard to believe the angle of every lamp has to be adjusted so that it can aim in the right direction and give uniform lighting on the road? And how long is that gonna take? It is unbelievable that you can even see the exposed wiring going to each lamp! Which is totally uncommon in commercial installations.
As for the peace tower, I suppose (but I’m just guessing) it will have dancing lights like moving from the bottom to the top faster and faster like an arrow pointing to the top before the flame is lit, and not just changing dim colors from purple to red to blue etc. Does anyone else know how it is supposed to work?
