Amazon's refusal to postal deliveries in Qatar

eviloops
By eviloops

Has anyone been able to get around the reluctance of Amazon (both US and UK versions) posting to Qatar?

This is my first attempt at an online order since I arrived here so I was oblivious to them not posting ......

Does anyone know why?? How could I get around it?

Or do I have to sent it back home and get the family in the UK to post it out here for me?

What dangers could a few text books possibly cause. I could understand them refusing to post to Qatar if it were an expensive appliance, however, the order wasn't expensive nor breakable!

Dear nguorlay, I appreciate you have taken the time to surf few pages of our website. Please note that Simpatico is an established Qatari Business. The CR No, the Municipality No, and the ICT Qatar Ecommerce license are all listed a page called 'Legal info' at the bottom of each page. The company profile page gives a general view of the business and its objectives. This is under 'about us' link.  You may want to notice that eCommerce websites, such as amazon.com and buy.com don't provide specific address. This is for security reasons, of the warehouse and administration office and because the users are intended to interact with the business only through the website, the staff at delivery (which could be a courier) and through the customer service department of the online store.  Simpatico in this matter has provided enough contact options:1. Telephone number (9am-13pm, and 4pm-7pm Sat-Thu): 45170872. Fax no: 45172483. Email: [email protected], or [email protected] or through the form in the website4. Live chat with customer service.5. Post: 39415  Please note that many websites, may not provide all the mentioned above contact details.  Simpatico Online Store is an established business with adverts on Qatari websites, in Waseet newspaper and next week in the daily newspapers. The bank account details of Simpatico are mentioned at checkout if you opt for wire transfer.  Regarding security you may have noticed the security seals on the website by independent authorities: 1.Alertsite.com daily tries to hack the website. 2. GoDaddy.com provides secure connection and USD 2000 protection for the customer in case of fault.3. Commercial Bank of Qatar. The credit card payment gateway is processed by the Commercial Bank of Qatar and thus Simpatico will not relate to your credit card details. If you opt for credit card payment, at checkout you will be securely transferred to IPG administered by CBQ in partnership with Ettisalat. You may also notice the MasterSecure logo on the website which means the store supports 3D secure technology. To learn more about what are 3D secure cards please contact your bank, but basically this means that after you enter your credit card details in the IPG a pop-up window from your credit card issuer will ask you for a password for the card.  I really suggest you have a look at the ecommerce presentation downloadable from the downloads section, or this link: https://www.simpatico.com.qa/inner.php?pg=Downloads At last, if we aim for repeated business we shall aim for complete customer satisfaction with every order.   Qatar's Online StoreShop online, same-day delivery to your door in Qatar! www.simpatico.com.qa

I would be dubious about handing over my credit-card details to a website which only supplies the following details:

PO BOX 39415

Tel. 4517087

At the very least, I'd want a proper business address, and a named general manager, who I could contact if anything went wrong with my order.

I understand why people running websites in Qatar don't want to publicise themselves, but in an eCommerce operation, you really do need to be a legit setup, with local sponsors and bank accounts.

If you don't provide ownership details, it looks like either a tax dodge or a phishing scam.

my friend also orders from Amazon frequently and had not face any hassles.  Just provide them an account from any courier companies such as DHL, Aramex or Fedex.  If you dont have your own account, I guess you can use ur company's acct.

Mister '.', I agree with you that some categories contain too few products, and that the categories offered do not include everything a buyer may want to buy, but at least there are plenty of birthday gifts, romantic gifts and general purpose gifts to choose from. Many of the products are also funny (such as a flying alarm clock) and new (such as the solar power charger), which makes it definetely 'worth the effort'. Customers looking for these things at least shall find it so, especially if they are feed up with having to pretend being Americans (most of the times), to buy from Amazon.com and anyway having to wait  at least a week to get their items at the Aramex office.

We are working on increasing the array of products offered starting with more consumer electronics, gift items, books and sun glasses.

Clothing in particular is difficult to sell online as customers often need to 'try them on' before purchasing which cannot be done online. Though as we grow we shall also introduce these.

Finally, I would appreciate, if you could drop few lines to the Customer Service about specific products which you consider 'important' to find online.

I understand that you are trying to advertise your website, but your categories are very limited & not worth the effort.

Where are the sports equipment, clothing, foot wear, etc, etc, etc.?

Althouh the range of products offered is still relatively limited you may want to try a local online store: www.simpatico.com.qa

With this you can get your order delivered to your door in Qatar on the same day of checkout.

Have used Aramex Shop&Ship service for 2 years for my mail and packages from the US. No problems, low cost, quick and good service. If you are going to be getting regular shipments from different places in the US or UK, this is the way to go.

Aramex gives you physical address in US and UK. They receive it for you and deliver to Qatar via their shop and ship service. My Amazon.com stuff gets here in less than a week from the day it was received by Aramex in US. I use it almost weekly. www.aramex.com/shopandship

You can apply for Amazon Prime which gives you Overnight shipping within the US for $3.99.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/subs/primeclub/signup/main.html/

You pay US$79 per year. Although you can share this with 4 other members. Amazon says that they should be in the same household but through experience, it doesn't matter where you ship your items; can be of any shipping address. So if you divide it to 4 people, you pay less.

You may also want to check your account in Amazon, then go to Manage my Amazon Prime. Amazon often times gives you a free trial of 1 -3 months using Amazon Prime. Just make sure that after you sign -up (for free if ever) that you go back to your Amazon Prime Setting and choose non-automatic renewal of membership after your trial expires.

Now, for US/UK delivery to Qatar, I suggest you use Aramex Shop and Ship. Details here...

http://lifeonthespot.com/blog/2006/11/aramex_shopship.php

Basically, once you apply for Shop & Ship services, they give you an address in the US/UK where you can send your stuff to, then Aramex delivers it to Qatar. You can pick up the items in their main office.

http://lifeonthespot.com/blog/2006/11/aramex_shopship.php also explains how it might even be faster and cheaper to use Aramex Shop & Ship instead of using Amazon shipping directly to Qatar.

I have heard good things about Aramex too. They give you a U.S. (I think British too if you want) address and then they ship it to you over here.

Hi there,

I don’t know if this will help…let us see.

One of my friends used this company for some books and other stuff as well and he praised their service and prices as well.

I have had stuff delivered from the US to a Qatar PO Box #.

What I don't understand is the difference in prices: the US and Uk prices look the same, except one is dollars, the other in pounds: so the British price is actually a lot higher..twice as much almost! So I order from the US, obviously.

I wonder what is TYLER'S SECRET?

ABC- My friends are those who I know personally. Come by the gathering tonight or another thursday and we shall talk. I am not the only one on the forum with the secret to amazon shipping but I cannot go publicly offering my services as that is illegal. Personal use is for myself and gifts so I can only justify my services for those close friends.

I am not blowing you off but I at least need to meet the person I am helping out.

Hmmm- which personality is coming out today?

I have been in such an evil mood all week since I quit smoking that I need all the friends I can get (I am losing them fast). I still have Red Pope's $20 bill and want to give it back to him.

Hmmm- which personality is coming out today? For my friends.....maybe that even incledes the poster of this thread you could just ask me as I know the secret to USD 3 shipping and one week arrivals on anything ordered from amazon or for that matter cheap and quick shipping from the US. Richard you should make sure to remind me tonight. As for eviloops...no favors for you since you never asked..... ;P

but what other options are there? The worst thing about living here for me is the lack of books. I would rather pay the high cost of P&P than go without.

Eviloops, I ordered three books from Amazon last month. They came to my P.O. Box in three weeks (One week was Eid hilodays in Qatar).

Richard, isnt it more expensive to get through Amazon. My books costed QR 118 and postage & handling almost the same. Is there any other way to reduce the cost of postage and handling?

a book ordered through Amazon. It came really fast (3 days) I just put my work address including PO box in the delivery details box. This is the third that I have ordered through Amazon. No problems with any of them.

I think they want you to provide your exact home address where you live so they can deliver it straight to you and they don't accept P.O. Boxes.

My husband also order books through Amazon and they don't seems to have rejected it when we provide them the house address.

I remember we had this problem in Saudi where they won't deliver it, same case they don't accept P.O. Boxes.

Do unto others, what you want to do unto you!!!
