QBS Radio
Why does QBS have to play the call to prayer? Surely the people that need to pray know what time this happens, what did they do before QBS? I see very expensive watches being worn and am guessing that these are real and do in fact tell the correct time!
Maybe its because it's state funded and QBS doesn't have any say, shame its so unnecessary. Also can someone please gently move aside the english chap who does the breakfast show. He is clearly not suited for this task and maybe just hasn't been told.
GO qatari GO! :-)))))))))

i hope my post was not harsh about qatar, because i love this place.
but the truth remains that qatar cannot become dubai overnight.
i agree with you dweller, qatar is getting there.some more time, and things will get better here.

Some of the comments about Qatar appear a little harsh
In my opinion, Doha is "getting there" in relationship to catching up with Dubai etc. Huge steps have been made in the country.
-Other religions can now be practiced openly.
-Alcohol is allowed in the hotels.
-Immigration (particularly arrivals) is now open and the staff are friendlier than they were. Those that remember the concrete bunker with holes at either end will know what I mean.
-Driving licenses are easier to obtain (you may not agree but they are) as is re-taxing your car.
-The entire process for obtaining a residence permit is much easier.
-Christmas can now be celebrated openly. It was banned in 1983 and QBS were not allowed to play Christmas Carols (even instrumentals). The greeting Merry Crimble had to be substituted for Merry Christmas.
-An athletics meeting with women wearing shorts was unheard of. So was women playing professional tennis in Qatar.
The above are just a few of the changes.
I agree that QBS probably need to improve as I tuned in when I was recently in Abu Dhabi.
Call to prayer on the Radio in case, you miss it. If you are a good Muslim you should not be racing around in your Land Cruiser you shold be at your Mosque. When was the last time you saw one pull over in a mad panic and a guy jump out and put a prayer mat out at the side of the road. I have been here almost a year never seen it.
There seems to be a bit if conflict here discussed before that, this country has to censor television, Internet etc for the sake of keeping Muslims good. Surely if you are a good Muslim you would not be seeking this sort of content any way. You have to actively seek out this sort of material you dont just stumble upon it so why censor it.
Anyway that's a bit off topic, QBS is woefully bad JOJO is probably the only decent thing on it. And don't even get me started on the holy Quran recital first thing in the morning. Just what you need to get you up at the start of the day.
Not that I am saying that a recital of the Holy Quaran is a bad thing, just doesn't seem appropriate first thing in the morning, although some would argue that its better than Chris Moyles.
Many here have complaints about QBS. Why listen to it in the first place. If you are not happy with the fares dished out by QBS try something else.
Its not easy to keep everyone happy. Thats one thing for sure.
dont compare doha with those places, they are way ahead of doha in lot of things.doha is still trying to get there ie open culture, tolerance to other religions and stuff like that.

Your point Han19?
doha is not dubai or bahrain and is decades away from becoming one.

i agree with boxter. Why do you have to have the call to prayer on the radio? Dubai got rid of it, Bahrain got rid of it on the radio. Most people watch satellite TV now and that doesn't have it. plus it is on the English language station where most of the listeners are non muslim.
The argument that you may be driving along without your watch so you turn on the radio to lind out if it is time is ludicrous. Just put your head out the window, you are never far from a mosque.
yeah .. worked with the military, its been telecast from the Camp Saliyah in Industrial area, so if you are around that side from the last road which leads to the military side and all the to the al udied base you`ll be able to access it.... :)
some nice music they play .. quite true ... meant totally for the soldiers tho :)
i havent heard QBS in a bit, but try to listen to it once in a while and joe metri is GOOD, atleast he plays some nice numbers, so make sure u can sms him or just request ur fav song, he olways plays mine :)) so if u hear a request to maverick .. its meeee... lol.. and hey .. i m addicted to my ipod.. the best alternative to QBS.
Boxter, all i have to say ... learn to respect other cultures and you have some serious issues, i wonder how they can take you in the office in that instance ? u got issues with ppl working with u as well ? hmm.... read the posts on top of mine ... i guess u`ll hv your answers :)
boxter: "shame its so unnecessary"
It is part of ISLAM; I’ll give an example and show you that the praying call is necessary. Praying call means calling Muslims to pray and many other things. Suppose that a good Muslim is driving in his car without having any watch or time. That Muslim is just turning in a place that doesn't have any mosque. He stopped the car, took his praying carpet and looked for something that can tell him if it's time to pray. He doesn't find any thing so he turns on the radio, and wait until the praying time. See it's very necessary.
Secondly, you're in a Muslim country! So you have to respect the praying wherever, on the Radio, on the mosque next to your home, anywhere... even if you were not in a Muslim country, you have to tolerate any thing related to any other religion different to yours...
That's what i do, i respect any other religion, and i'm sure that many people here in Qatar do.
P.S: sometimes, the praying time changes.
Hedia Saidani
This is never gonna change. Not sure tis on the top or the bottom.but this station really rocks/swings/ the moods offff..
morning half n hour crap talk ...what we see in the paper he reads them offf the great DJ/s...( we too can read that)
comments as dead as slimmy squids..
really irritates..
whata pity....Its easy ....QBS start again ..listen to other FM/s and see is there a difference in compering.
2/ The clarity of sound and the quality of the digital..not like the congo drums at all.
3/ The ad/s tht support them..
High time....switch other language channels and dont mix them..
boxter: dont you have any other issue to be worried or workedup about that you have picked on the call to prayer on QBS. tolerance is the key word.
jojo thinks he is sexy and cool. he is plain boring.
QBS has not chnaged a bit in the past 15 years and no matter how many mails we send them they wont change.
they live in some wierd world of their own and are determined to make their listeners lives miserable. havent they ever heard 100.5?
happy heart
drive safe because someone is waiting for you at home
I am just wondering where did the Rock Show program and Mariah go, I love her program.

Anyone else picking this up ? I seem to find it between 101 and 103 FM. Must be for the US base ? Quite good, plays 80's, 90's and 00's, also lots of Info adverts for the military.
is not the problem with QBS. The problem is with the DJs. Especially the two morning jokers. There is camp Irish Bernie (the one that does the jingle that Butterfly likes). He is something else and should be retired to an old folks home. Then the other morning show DJ is miserable English Elias. He hates everything and everybody and moans pretty much constantly. But just when you think things can't get any worse on comes DJ JoJO. And while I am on it, the English woman who does the news Amanda someone, can barely read and seems to stumble over the most simple words.
At the moment they are giving out an email address so you can write to them and tell them "who's hot and who's not". Anyone got the email address?
I dun hear QBS too much, but sometimes in the evening when I do, it's that freak RJ JOJO... he's such a wannabe... tries to put on this very American accent thats so fake. The other day he was like thanking some for some gift he got and went on to say that i think about 5-6 times. In between the song he wud turn down the volume, butt in and thank the guys again... QBS shud really get some professional RJ's and revamp their thingieee...
As for the Brit dude who does the bkfst show... lets not get there... and for the missy who reads the news as well... Argghhh!!!
Thank God for CD, MP3's, IPOD's...
has a fantastic English country accent. he reminds me of the voices on Roger's Bodges on the BBC! Wonderful! His taste in music is a bit suspect though: he once played 'Suzanne' by Leonard Cohen first thing in the morning...great if you want to feel suicidal for the rest of the day! Talking about which, why is the 7 to 7.30 spot in French? My brain is stressed enough with the traffic!
On the call to prayer, Boxter should consider that ringing of church bells is similar to the Muslim prayer call. Would he object to that in England?
"When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer...Superstition ain't the way, no no no..."
Stevie Wonder.
Cant you change the station or play a CD during call for prayer. Dont try to change things which you dont like. Change yourself!
Turn on your CD
I don't understand why it is so hard for some people to respect other cultures and religions. Just FYI, a call for a prayer isn't just a prayer reminder but has a better purpose and more meaning to it. But I won't go into more detail now. I leave it to Qatari, if he likes to explain it.
It's funny to see Qatari getting annoyed at people's comments!
The call to prayer doesn't bother me at all, its part of the fun of being in Qatar, prayer time and everything stops, including the radio.
Actually I quite like it, sounds relaxing, have no idea what it means, but probably something along the lines of "lets all go to pray to Allah, its time". Sometimes in the privacy of our car we sing along. When I leave Qatar is one of the things I will miss.
As for the breakfast show...I LIKE IT!!! I love the song...what was it? Lets wake up and start your day the QBS way (or something like that) la la la la la.
I don't like JOJO in the evening, thought.
Hey, boxter...its just a matter of only 6 mins.approximately, hehehe what matter to you man...in my side i have no problem with it...& u R right its a state FM RADIO...exercise patience man its a good virtue..
the call for prayer takes less than 5-7 mins, I do not see it as a problem.
I'm not sure why this is a problem to you. You are in a country that is majority Muslim.
You may think your watch comment is pretty funny but it's actually pretty stupid within the context of your post. I mean, what the hell did people do before they had watches?
Jeez...and there I was thinking that you Kiwi Engineers came to help us marvel at the wonders of modern technology :)
believe half ofd what you see and nothing of what you hear
