New QL Gathering- Feb!! Come on, blue blooded :-D

Aisha
By Aisha

Hello QatarLiving’s guys and gals!

How are you? How is your health? How’s your hemoglobin? No anemia?

I care about your health and the health of our community! So to cut the long story short: Let’s organize a gathering!

I’ll never say no to a FREE MEALS :-D

Seriously, The Blood Donation Unit- Blood Bank (Tel 4432129) is short of blood.

Let’s go there to meet up and donate! it’ll be fun - believe me!

NOTE : It's this Saturday (3 Feb between 8.30 and 10.00) at the blood donation unit bulding outside Hamad Hospital.

I mean FUN, see:

  1. We’ll know who gets scared of injections hehehe
  2. We’ll HAVE TO sit at the same room for AT LEAST 15 minutes, soo we won’t let the first impression mislead us.. we might turn to be nicer.
  3. We’ll have a good story to tell after we become friends about the first time we met!
  4. Not to mention how good is the deed itself.
  5. And of course, they’ll give each and every one of us a FREE MEAL (otherwise we wouldn’t be physically able to leave them hehehehe kidding of course) :-D

Cheese sandwiches, cakes, and cookies.. and a drink (juice of course :-P ). If you got lucky maybe you’d get an ice cream, I say MAYBE.. I don’t know :-D

Come on guys, any support?

I’m thinking February.

Meanwhile, watch your hemos !

From Hamad Hospital’s site:

Demand for Blood rising at HMCDOHA: The increasing road accidents in Qatar has led to a high demand for various categories of blood at Hamad General Hospital, according to Siddiqa Ismail, in charge of the blood donation unit at HMC.

I agree with you it is duty and things we have to do for ourselves and man kind

for me i called it noble because it is hard these days to find people think of others before they think of themsleves

By han19• 4 Feb 2007 13:21
han19

ok something has been bothering me a bit.

blood donation is called a noble deed, i dont know why, although i did agree that we all do this noble act and i am proud of all who attended, even the ones who could not donate, but i dont know why it is called noble. is it really noble? call me crazy but just read me out first please.i think i am in one of my zones right now.

man serves himself first, survival of the fittest, but once he has served himself, he tries and serves mankind, so its but natural that for mankind we as humanbeings should try to donate our blood which may come of use to someone in his/her life, because in todays worlds its possible to give blood. it becomes a duty of a humanbeing to donate blood simply because he is human and it is human nature to help......

oh god am i making sense? so why are we calling this act of donating blood as something noble? i didnt feel i did something noble by donating blood, i felt i did something that i had a duty to do at sometime if it was possible for me to do.

do we call this act noble so people will feel good that they are doing something almost equivalent to serving god?

does anyone think this way?

can someone explain this, i am torn between noble act and duty.

sfd24, i like your idea of official membership for charity works, and fund raising.i dont think it will be huge amounts, but even a small amount will help someone.

the only problem is the starting, somehow we have to kickstart it, so every decided day of a month or week, we try to meet up to carry out this work.but there is no looking back once its started.whoever is free, can always take the initiative by themselevs, for most of us, the language is a barrier and we dont know the right places to be at.

insha'allah we have carried out one event, we will manage others too.

the idea of zakat is wonderful.

Yes i feel that Aisha can organize other humanitarian work also, i'll suggest to Start some formal membership (Forms) for this cause (Manging record). I am with you to start visiting old age homes or children homes

I am also in favour to start raisning fund (with in QL)so that we can utilise for some noble cause. Also we can collect/submit our Zakat and can phyisically check the correct use of it. In any case i'll happy to participate with you

i fully agree with gypsy,

aisha you dont need to organise groups for carrying out humanitarian work, the fact you did, is subhan'allah.

but i feel, hereon, if you have plans from your side to carry out any volunteering work, be it visiting the old age home or children with speecial needs, specifically on weekends when most can make it, just post a thread on it.even if one person accompanies you is a service to society.

Congrats for Aisha & Sara... you two really did a good job.

I am glad that I could meet you all in person. han19 it was nice talking to you.

Aisha Its just the beginning we can do lot more, we dont need big group to do something good for the society. Nothing is impossible. Being a Qatari gal you are so lucky to have such wonderful parents who trust you and give you full freedom to get involved with people from different cultural backgrounds.

All the male members who came there, it was really nicce to see you all today. Thanks for being part of this campaign.

Qatari, its all because of you that we met today. A Big thanks to you.

After the duty all night ,was too tired and sleepy but I wanted to participate for this nice cause and meet the bunch of very nice people ( Yeah I found decent and nice).

I am really angry with the rules. Why i cant donate if i am not in doha straight for 6 months.I visit out of doha almost every month , so it means i can never donate.I could not understand this law.

Sara & aysha u did a great job. Keep it going. Its the beginning but still it was a big achievement to bring the people togather for a nobel cause.

There r a lot many people who will be ready for a party and for clubbing but not for a good reason. But still there r quite a few people who can dare to come out for a helping cause with a positive attitude.

I feel upset for not able to donate . But on the other hand I feel happy to meet some nice friends around.

U won the day with decent gathering and a nobel cause.

Well DOne all of u .....

Congratulations dear sisters and brothers!!

ALHAMDULILLAH a million !!!!!!!!

Thaaaaaanks for the 14 who were there today!! welll, actually 16 with apple and her husband!! >>>plz sister apple send me your names & contact means .. so I can add you to our growing list.. I’m so sorry we didn’t meet!!!!)

For those who were unable to donate.. It’s ok once you’re capable of donation you will try again :-) Your good intention counts too so don’t be disappointed.

Guys, if only you saw the eyes of members who are not allowed to donate! They looked so sad! They uttered the phrase “I was rejected” with such a sad tone.. angry sometimes hehe.. It’s like they were gonna get money out of it !! You’re sooo good people to be sad over this!

@@ Our report with photos and interviews will be published soon (during this week hopefully) in both Arabic and English. (Arabic>>Alsharq news paper, English>>not decided yet) Plus online forums of course..

Yaaaaaaaay guys we are the FIRST online community in Qatar to do this! CONRGATULATIONS brother qatari!

THANKS to Eid charity for everything! ( The blood donation Unit is related to the charity of Eid Bin Muhammed Al Thani)

subhan'allah the entire process took place smoothly.

i was scared of fainting and almost did, but all was alhamdullilah very well taken care of.

to aisha and sara: this is an achievement to you two to get this work together.it felt like we all were members of a small family having come there to do something for others.

pls let us know the final list of members who came there, who donated and who were unable to. the ones who were unable to should be appreciated for their effort and their sincere thought.

i am extremely happy to have had the oppurtunity to meet the other members who came there today, and i simply feel that you are all very humble and kind people. if you can donate blood for whatever reason, that may come of use to someone else in his/her life, then you sure are a very nice human being.i sincerely wish all the members who came there today happiness and all good things in life, insha'allah.

mister, and aisha,

dont take this too hard on either selves.

mister you cracked a joke, it did seem strange but i did feel it looked like a joke, but aisha is organising this event, and she being a young person and getting her gears around this got a bit confused or surprised by this. i am sure she wants this to work out, becasue she is doing it for humanity and for QL. its a big task on her to carry out. its not easy to arrange an event.

mister, you must be a very generous person if you have donated blood several times before. and if you can, you must make a short visit to encourage us all, insha'allah.

aisha, i dont think any of us is after the refreshment as such.everyones looking at this as an oppurtunity to meet one another who have been interacting with each other for so many days and yet do something very noble that can save somebody's life someday insha'allah.

alone in doha, insha'allah you wil be able to get together with the guys and have a nice time later.

happy heart

By Aisha• 2 Feb 2007 06:23
Aisha

Thanks for keeping up :-)

Beother Mister, it's not amatter of one riyal can!..I KNOW that one member did call me after your "comment" on them and was like "welll if they don't care thenn...!!"..

ok no problem let's leave it now :-) You've done great so far :-D

By Mister• 2 Feb 2007 01:41
Mister

woo Aisha..

I don't think that Qatar Living nice and long list of potential blood donors would really care or be tempted by a one riyal can of juice. So, I wouldn't think what I said should turn people away. And, please, read all my comments carefully.

Let's leave it at that.

By alone_in_doha• 1 Feb 2007 23:48
alone_in_doha

See u all there in the blood bank with passion.

I wish if men could feel fit after the blood donation and we could plan to go to beach for a volly ball and bar-b-q party. Anyways we could arrange such thing sometime later.

Any thing regarding food for donars required, let me know, we will arrange it as earliest as possible.

Good Luck!!

Ijaz

By Aisha• 1 Feb 2007 23:15
Aisha

Thanks Mister for the clarification. You know brother, I was kind of sad because what you said might have turned people away.. I know you don’t mean to of course..but this is serious, maaan.. People are following up with the post ( I know that for sure. Some are not members) so something like your joke could cause a serious harm to the good deserved reputation of the unit.. I couldn’t believe it when I read it so I called and the lady said there is a huge misunderstanding.

Now everything is solved :-) ok

By Mister• 1 Feb 2007 20:36
Mister

Of course han19.. it's better for first timers to have company. I was addressing others who asked Aisha to reschedule so it would fit their schedule. They can always go to one of these get togethers I read about in the forum.

By han19• 1 Feb 2007 19:38
han19

mister, its very nice of you to clarify this matter because i too was a bit surprised. i felt maybe you are joking, anyway, alls well that ends well.

no this is not about making new friends, but all we are trying to do is get QL members as a group to carry out this good deed.

i have never donated blood before and i am a bit nervous about it too, so for me its going to be nice to know that i have someone over there with me who will take the responsibility for me or rather look out for my well wishes, even if that person is a stranger.i am sure aisha and gypsy gal will keep a check on how i am doing during this entire process and after it too. if i have to do this on my own, i would probably just push it to some other time. the group is a motivation to do something good for someone is need.

happy heart

By Mister• 1 Feb 2007 18:40
Mister

Aisha.. everything was there.. it's just that no one offered :)

After you called them, I got a call later from the blood bank. Didn't mean for it to be a big deal. I was just trying to be funny. Something that seldom worked :))

I was going prepared anyway.. very well prepared.. Something I usually do when donating blood so I don't have to worry about my precious health :) so I didn't really need juice or cookies.

To all who cannot make it on Saturday, the Blood Bank is open until 21:30 every day except Fridays. Just go whenever you can. This is more about making a good deed than making new friends.

P.S. My name is not Hisham

insha'allah, i too want to meet you and aisha and get to know the others.

hey ahmad why not just make your presence there by coming.you have fun during the weekend and remember my signature.i think you are one of those guys driving who feels he has his vehicle under control, so speed is no issue. is gypsy right or am i right?just curious :-)

This is something you should do of your own ..not because someone compelled you to do so.

treasures maybe you didn't mean it….but your comments sounds like you are forcing others to donate. If your intention is to meet people..you can always go to these get-togethers to meet QL members.

AHMAD accidents can happen to anyone anytime...even if its not our fault. All we can do is drive safely. I don't think you are one of those crazy drivers we see on the street everyday.

I will be very sad if i heard that u have accident

I am not forcing people to give blood, I saw that Aisha understood my pionts of my words just to give some encourge and it the first chance for me that i will meet some people of QL

by the way they will not allow you to chooose blood giver :p

AHMAD44

Treasures dude relax man, dont compare giving blood to peoples social lives, ofcourse going to a social event after working hours is alot easier and more common than having blood drained from you, there are many many reasons why someone wont give blood, some people simply just dont want to!

That doesnt make them evil or insensitive or anything really! Its their blood man! If you like to do it then thats wonderful you might be responsible for saving someone's life the day you do it! But if i dont donate then that doesnt make me guilty of killing anybody incase of a blood shortage at HMC!!

Dont start putting people under the spotlight because this website forum has nothing to do with charity work! If people want to go then thats wonderful, if not then to each person their reasons, i simply dont want to, i dont know why but i just dont want to do it! thats my choice! I'm going to go out to restaurants this weekend with friends and have a good time and i'm not going to feel guilty about it just cause you said so.

Seeing the weather situation outside, if i do end up in some accident this weekend and in need of a blood transfer then not only would it be the most extreme irony....but treasures i would have to avoid you for the rest of my life just to hide my shame.

hi gypsy gal and aisha,

you are very sweeet with your concern. i do have a baby, but i have stopped feeding since dec, just a month back, but i am taking vitamin supplements and herbal supplements. you think this will be a problem.

does anyone know better about this?

treasure1234, relax, brother, lets be happy with the small set of friends we have here trying to perform a noble work, instead of cribbing about the ones who are not here or who dont want to be here. such kind of work usually gets a slow start.slowly and steadily, insha'allah next meeting more people may turn up.

I am really fadeup check other meetings people comming from other cities to attend and some of them offer ridings for others.

Let them come to see us and may be the will have courge or the atomosphere will help them get of fears.

Qatarina

Hi all,

To those thinking of donating blood..good on you! But here's some info I got from the Australian Red Cross website on people who cannot donate blood for reasons listed below.

Reasons for temporary deferrals:

There are many reasons for temporary deferrals, these are some of the more common reasons.

You will be temporary deferred if you :

*are pregnant, recently gave birth or are currently breast feeding

*have a cold, flu, sore throat or diarrhoea

*have been taking antibiotics in the last 5 days

*had dental work (fillings/cleaning in the last 24 hours and 1 week for root canal treatment

Reasons for 12 months deferrals

You will not be able to give blood for a period of 12 months after you : *had a tattoo

*had a blood transfusion

*had any piercing performed with clean, single use disposible equipment (in which case Plasma only can be used)

*have been in prison or lock up

*had male to male sex

*had sex with a prostitute

*had a partenr with hepatitis B or C

Reasons for permanent deferrals

Unfortunately , there are some circumstances that wil prevent people from giving blood. You will be permanently deferred if you :

*lived in the UK between 1980-1996 for a cumulative period of six months or more

*are HIV positive

*injected drugs not prescribed by a doctor or dentist

have hepatitis B or C

*had open heart surgery

*are under 16

*are over 70

Disclaimer : This information was obtained from the Australian Red Cross webiste. Please refer to them for any queries or comments.

So there you are guys....

If you are not in any situation listed above...then you are most likely able to donate blood. So go for it!

Aisha

Cooooooooooool. Thanks Qatari!! Thanks A LOT!

I’ll be waiting for the results of your creative thinking, bro :-)

Guys,

About the press thing.. wellll since that we’ll start small, then it wont be a real REPORT , we don’t want to pretend to be something we’re not right now.. I don’t want to feel in need to exaggerate.. it’ll be just a piece of news ( in news papers and online forums) to encourage other sites to do the same. However, I’ll document the details anyway for the QL records.

About the questionnaires, the lady there told me they already have their owns.. so our data base will be built automatically. However, I appreciate you all send me emails via my profile so I can save your emails as well for future useful gatherings..

Come on, send me a hi or anything :-)

By anonymous• 31 Jan 2007 22:48

This is a fantastic initiative Aisha. You should really be commended for pulling this together.

I'll think of a way to keep track of the group - it's something I've been working on.

I suggest that you should use Qatar Living to introduce the donars. As long as I'm in Qatar, I'll inshaAllah be part of the donars group. We belong to this community and I do respect people of this community as they really helped me in my tough time, I would personally like QL to be renowned.

Aisha

Is everything ok?

Tell us before we do anything wrong... I hope you are watching the whole planning thing…

If you mind using “Qatar Living” name please do tell me. All what I’ll say to them is that we are group of people who happened to be members in the site .. so we are using the name to distinguish ourselves.. nothing official from the behalf of the site owner.. BUT it’ll be official in the sense that the group does exist.. we’ll build our own data base of (hopefully: regular!)donors from QL.

By Aisha• 31 Jan 2007 22:26
Aisha

"Dear I'm no sure about the final number of people attending.. but it doesn't really matter because the center will start a group of donors from QL...eventually the number will grow according to the rise of awareness afterwards.. yay it's like we'll start an accredited kind of group of donors. like official you knowww"

First we have to know if they will come or not. Then we confirm the date.

It's outside Hamad Hospital, somewhere near the parking area. It looks like a house, it has Qatar's flag on top of it.. and of course the name of the blood donation unit in both Arabic and English.

It has two doors one for men and the other for women.. Once you’re in tell the lady in the reception about QatarLiving gathering and she'll show you where we are. We’ll get your info and talk about the details.. don’t worry.
