Pregnant and new job offer

I have been offered a great offer in one of the big firms in the country which I spend few months looking for and a written offer will be finalised very soon. However, only today I realised that I am a few weeks pregnant. I wanted to know what the labour laws are in the UAE with regards to pregnant employees. Do I tell them up front before signing the contract that I am pregnant, is there a chance they refuse me or do I tell them after I am a few months pregnant and when they see how my performance is on the job bearing in mind that there is a 6 month probation period? Also, I am due to do a medical test so that I can be employed in the UAE will that test reveal that I am pregnant? Please advise me what I can do and tell me of other stories which are similar to mine and how they behaved.

What happened? Did you take the job?

Actually we just recently got married and I got relocated here. I need to stay legal in the country as I am currently on visit visa. As my husband has not found himself a job here yet he can not process my sponsorship as me being his wife so I need to find employment and get the employer to be my sponsor. I came here thinking that he is working but suddenly found out that he had left work even before I relocated here. I am in a very bad situation right now and employment is the only way out of my situation. I want to stay honest and this may lead me leaving the country and separating from my husband if he does not secure anything.

I tend to agree with abc150.

Be honest and tell the company that you are pregnant.

I appreciate that you have just relocated to the UAE and that your partner (if you are not married that will cause problems in Qatar) has not worked since you relocated.

To be honest and I don't want to be over critical, it sounds as if your "partner" needs to get off his butt, find work and accept some responsibility.

You have a very valid point and I agree with you totally. However, I have just relocated and my partner has not been working since I got here which is a good few months. I really need to work to bring income to the household as my partner is hugely in debt and I need to finance a lot of things including the new baby.

Although I have never been in a situation like yours (since I am a man ;)),I would recommend that you tell them upfront the correct situation. If they donot hire you with this situation, they are not a company worth working for in the first place.
