Availability of British essentials?

Serendipity
By Serendipity

While I am quite flexible and adaptable and love international cuisine, I do, however, have some favourite things that I miss when away from the UK. What's the availability like for:

* Twinings Earl Grey teabags? I quite like Liptons Yellow Label, but nothing beats a cup of Earl Grey.

* Heinz baked beans? Every now and then when I'm living outside the UK I have a craving for beans-on-toast. Should I bring a couple of tins as emergency rations? Or can I get them there?

* Pimms? Lemonade? Also, Laphroaig single malt whisky?

* Horlicks? (Preferably the instant, just add hot water, stuff)

* Walkers crisps? Lays are okay, but every now and again I *need* some salt & vinegar and cheese & onion.

Thank you.

Some more things that have occurred to me:

Linda McCartney veggie sausages (or any other type of veggie sausages for that matter, Cauldron, Quorn whatever)?

I don't often drink pop, but I do occasionally, and I know I'm going to crave stuff if I know I can't get it, so can I buy Dandelion and Burdock out there? And what about Old Jamaica Ginger Beer? (I don't mean ginger ale the mixer, I mean the ginger beer with a fiery kick to it.)

Can I get Kingfisher fennel flavoured toothpaste over there? Or failing that, the Arm & Hammer baking soda ones?

Or do I need to stock up beforehand and bring with?

Hi,

I am also a brit in Doha and also like some of the home comforts, here is what I have found.

Megamart at Landmark and The Centre are good for Heinz Beans, Walkers Crisps, Twinnings Tea, they also have a fairly good range from Waitrose, also at Landmark you can buy English eggs.

Qmart at the Mall also sell English bread (yes, the real stuff)(Kingsmill and Sunblest).

Let me know if you need to find anything elso, I spend alot of the time at the shops!!!!!!

All booze only available from booze shop, good selection of everything available.

Ooh, thanks Dragon, availability of Laphroaig is good; where I've been in the past, usually whisky = Johnny Walker, so it's good to know I'll be able to get some of the good stuff.

Lovely! :)

What can i say, Charmed is an avid fan of disgusting brown stuff called Marmite so we have faced the same thing kind of.

1. Early grey, available from most mall's

2. Heinz baked beans same again, anywhere from Safeer to Carrefour.

3. Pimms, well QDC do have it and lemonade is bountiful, as for Laphroaig whisky will have a look next time in the QDC for you as its nearly grog shopping time again.

4. Horlicks, the mall on D ring has it not sure if anywhere else has it.

5. Walkers, yep mall on D ring again has them, although Lays are more bountiful.

* Twinings Earl Grey teabags ---> No problem, any supermarket has them!

* Heinz baked beans ---> Same as the tea, any supermarket, specially the large ones like carrefour, giant, megamart

* Pimms? Lemonade? ----> Not sure

* Laphroaig single malt whisky ---> Boose shop, with an entire array of Malts

As for the rest, am not sure, just try the big supermarkets!
