THE Traffic Department is to issue new rules governing the issue of driving licences, probably restricting it to only those expatriates who really need it, Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
These new rules will be applicable to expatriates, particularly labourers and unemployed women, the report said.
“It is likely that these segments of the society which do not need to drive to work will not be issued driving licences.”
According to the report, these people will be banned from joining driving schools on the assumption that while the labourers are provided transportation by their employers and unemployed women mostly stay at home.
“These measures are also in line with the department’s plans to ease traffic congestion on Doha streets which receive over 200 new cars every day.”
