Cars - lease or buy?

Hi all

What do people think it's best to do - lease or buy a car.

My husband and I will have a reasonable monthly car allowance (about 48,000, we believe) and a two year contract on our jobs. Are there many lease outlets so that we don't have the problem of trying to sell when we leave, or is the used car market quite lively? We'd probably get a 4WD so we can go out and about and as (I understand!) petrol is reasonably cheap, it's not such a consideration as here in Australia.

Thanks, Guys.

you can get a Clio for around 3,000 QR I think.

Stay away from Toyota if you want good service.

Great cars, rubbish service.

BUY, lease is too expensive. Buy a used 4x4 when you arrive here. It's pretty easy to sell when you leave. At the moment I got 4 cars that I own, i am not worried about that(all non japanese).

If you buy a used non Japanese 4x4 you will find some good bargains where the first owner has taken the major loss on the vehicle. PM me if you want more information.

I am signing a contract for two years, and getting an allowance of USD$650, which will total about 55,000QR in a two year period. What should I do? Buy or lease? In the US we are getting used to small vehicles. Can I buy a new small car for how much? What are the cost of leasing. You can respond to my personal email [email protected]

Hireing a car or buying a car for 2 yrs comes to almost the same price wise.

Question is will you be driving a lot (ie above 100 kms)& driving it rough, through bad terrain etc?

If your answer is yes then hire is a better option as they service & clean the car every 5000kms free. The maintainence (due to driving it rough & through bad terrain)if any would be free.

If you drive less then buying a new car would be good.

The only difference would be the cash you get when you sell the thing off after the two yrs are up.

Both ways the difference is not much.

Or you could buy a second hand car.....if you are a real miser....I heard a guy got a really old car for QR500. True.

Buy. It's cheaper. You won't have any trouble selling, as there are plenty of folks who can't afford to buy new.

You will not get the choice of a 4WD with hiring a car, availabilty and demand is not so great, also they will request that you do not take the car off road.

I suggest that you buy - and buy a car with a good resale value here. Toyota - New Rav 4 starts around 100K mark and you will always get that sold here.

Stay away from any American branded cars as they do not resale here very well.

Why do you say buying is better? If everyone wants to buy a new car, doesn't that mean it would be difficult to sell it when we leave? If we lease, then we don't have to worry about that, as I understand it? Is leasing more expensive? Does it have less choice?

Thanks again, Adviuser, for your comments - you really don't have enough work to do, do you???? lol

Buy a car and if possible NEW !!. Look to buy Japanese Nissan, Toyota or Mitsubishi. The reason being they are reasonable costing, well the Nissans and Mitsubishis are.

Also they generally will give you a five year warranty.

New pathfinders start at 105K

Mitsubishi Nativa 90K

All Japanese cars re well supported by large service centres.

Petrol 11 pence a litre. Water 15p a litre. Its cheap
