living in al kohr
By kindperson •
Hello,
Anyone teach or send thier children to the al kohr international school? We're thinking of moving there ,just wanted to know what the school is like and the surronding area. We've been offered a job inclusive of accomodaton about 5 miles from the school. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Can anyone please give me some info on the area outside Al kohr compound. I've been told that the accomodation included in my job offer is just outside the compound 3/4 bedroomed property about a kilometer from the Al kohr international school. Does anyone live near there. It would be a great help if you could shed some light on what the area is like and what facilities are close by? Thank you in advance!
no prob salman, glad i could help :D
thanks you very much i will try it out here.
Salman, basically you subscribe to a proxy service, so it will appear to the internet that you are dialling from france for example. It wont affect your PC speed, however your surfing speed can be slowed down as you are being routed through another server. If you choose a good service like the one at www.anonymiser.com you shouldnt have any probs
Good luck!
can u tell me from where i can download this skype anonymiser and how it works. will it slow my computer. thanx for you in advance.
Thanks so much for your help. Im signing off now but will be in touch via email. thanks once again
thanks novita....there are ways of getting around blocked websites (illegal but easy) using an anonymiser service, however i use skype a lot for my business so when i move there it will come in handy. Cheers for the info :)
used to be banned ... they blocked the website of skype. So you can't recharge your account. But i heard that some embassies made a petition to Qtel and they opened it again.
Novita, isnt skype banned there??
You should get skype for international line ... Qtel just too expensive for international call.
For what you describe about yourself ... i almost 80 percents sure you would love living in Al Khor.
You don't need to get additional line for internet ... just get ADSL. If you have no mortgage and house rented out ... you wont have any financial responsibility.
My suggestion ... i think you should give it a go to come here and see what happen :-)
xx
Yes it is take home pay. we have no mortagae to pay and house will be rented out. Although i do drive here, and i've worked for 15 years now all i want to do is relax! we're coming over for the sun and get away from the rat race. My idea of living is in a nice quiete suburb no noise. So i won't be too fussed if i can't drive. As long as i have access to a gym plenty of reading material and cooking i'll be happy!, i may even consider learning arabic!
Forgot to mention that they pay for one telephone line rental. Are international telephone call expensive? will i need to get an additional line for the internet?
dobel post
11949 is take home pay isn't it? if you have to pay the bill on top of that you should take out another 1.000 QR for telephone, internet and cable tele.
Do you have any mortgage back home? With this exchange rate that getting worse you should comsider that too.
To be honest ... people's life style is different ... if you want to avoid went and cold weather in the UK you will love Qatar. Do you drive in the UK? There is a possibility of unemploy women will be ban from driving... you might miss your independent if you not able to drive since not much in Al Khor.
Thanks.
THis is what is worrying me; All the comments on the cost of living. Im wondering if its worth moving to Qatar? My husbands been offered a post salary offering 11949 QR this is inclusive of rent elec water telephone and accomodation. WE have no children do you think it reasonable?
I enjoyed it alot here ... i been living in Malaysia and Singapore before we landed in Qatar.
But as you read on this forum ... things getting very expensive here ... housing and living cost are just up and up.
At the moment what making us stay are my husband short working hours, 6 weeks paid leave, my son is in one of the best school in Doha and he is happy with it, and on top of that i am feeling Doha like a home. After 6 years very hard for me to go out without meeting someone i know.
On the other hand ... since we arrived in Doha nearly 6 years (6 years in September) ago ... my husband been getting a pay cut more than 20 percents because of the exchange rate from UK pound to Qatari Riyal (he got paid in riyal). To make a matter worse ... the politic at work just spiralling.
So we shall see how many more years we would be here ...
Drop me a line in novita77@hotmail, i will be more than happy to take you along for coffee with other ladies.
Thanks for your reply much appreciated. Have you enjoyed your years in Qatar is it a nice plac to live in?

Havent come across friend with kids in that schoo ... but 5 yrs here i havent heard anything bado the school either.
