Schooling costs for babies and up (and annual flights home)

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me what a good school costs in Doha. Baby has not arrived yet, but I'm told it's good to start them in nursery school before 1 year, and I guess take it from there. So, how much is nursery school? And then Kindergarden and regular schooling?

Also, is it normal in Qatar for an expat package to include annual flights home?

Thanks for your help.

It used to be mine, too. But then I recall reading an article a while ago that referred to some research that concluded that very young babies fared better in nursery school than those who started slightly later.

I'm guessing that's what Withnail was referring to by saying: "...I'm told it's good to start them in nursery school before 1 year..."

I can't find the article I'm thinking of though.

I think under 1 year is awfully young to put in a nursery. Unless you are a working mum. (Just my opinion)

If you are after socialising, I would have thought that joining a playgroup would be better. Both for you and your growing baby.

Have you heard of the monthly newsletter "Mums the Word". They list all local playgroups aswell as other interesting bits and pieces for mums with young babies and toddlers.

Nursery is usually for 3-4 year old. I don't think this would be covered in your employment package. Schooling costs are usually paid when they start the mainstream school.

If you want a copy of mums the word, just provide your email address and I will send the next one through to you. You can then ask to be put on their mailing list.

Good Luck

1400 QR a month and above for good nursery.

mom at home, but a few hours a day at nursery to begin socializing (if we find a good nursery).

so it is normal for flights home then - that's what i thought.

For some large companies, Oil & Gas, Government >>> it is really a part of the contract but MOST of the companies here in Qatar are really having this BAD BEHAVIOUR taking advantage that they give the ticket for every 2 years only. They want to save the airticket cost yearly.....

For nursery school, I think its good for your baby.. do you think it will be better for your child if you can take care of her during her delicate years.. (I dont know) maybe I am just afraid of something bad happen to my baby.. especially, she cannot tell me about it!! Try to ask for some whom really doing that..

Thanks..
