Black Sandana tree...what is it worth?

Hi all!...

I was talking to my dad on the phone yesterday, and he told me something that made me wondered all day today, i was trying to find an answer on the net but still not sure of it. I was not supposed to post my question out here but can't find any better informative site than QL.

I am actually from Zamboanga city, a southern part of Phil., we owned a big forest land at another place(sorry not to mention the place name) near to Malaysia. Last month...there are 2 guys came to my grandpa house about buying a certain tree from our forest land, because they heard my grandpa mentioned that there are couple of tree in our land that when you burned it and put on fire it produces a kind of oil and gave nice smell. These 2 man came to our home and made some deal 1,000pesos/kilo. My grandpa agreed and was thinking of at least making money out of it instead of throwing and setting on fire.  But my grandpa thought that they will used it for logging e.i. building a house. But no! they want it piece by piece in sacks.

Out of curiousity, my dad asked them what to do w/ that piece of wood? they said they will bring it to Singapore and/or Malaysia, for what? we don't know! and it was not the end. Why i am curious now is that, they came again and asking for more. So, my grandpa need to hired someone to travel to that jungle place to get those.

My question:  Does anyone have an idea what that piece of wood are for? a thousand per kilo for a piece of wood is not a small amount in Philippine! but...I want to know what is the value of that wood? What is something in it to be worth?

My grandpa told me the name of that tree in our dialect tribe is Black Sandana and the tree also gives white flowers. Sorry, that's the only description i know about the tree.

My sincere thanks to all,
