Traffic Fines and Jail Time

Anyone read the peninsula this morning?  The Qatari government is talking about doubling all traffic fines and making things like running stop lights and reckless driving (driving over 160 km/h) punishable by prison.  I wonder if this will make driving here a bit more sane?

In Brazil, if you want to renew your drivers' license (for drivers who got theirs before 2000) you need to write an exam on first aid and defensive driving. The first aid exam is about not helping anyone if you're not trained to do so. Here's one of the questions they asked:

In an accident with injured victims, what should you do:

a. Perform mouth to mouth

b. Give first aid to the person

c. Do nothing

If you want to pass you must answer c.

In Germany you can actually be prosecuted for this kind of thing. It is your duty to help someone in a state of need on th road - but to be quite honest hardly anyone will stop and help if you have a flat tyre.

to stop and render aid here to a wounded person. Back home its against the law NOT to render aid. Just how many lives could be saved with basic knowledge of first aid here! I mean, I'm trained in First Aid, and have on two occasions stopped when there was a major accident and got the victims at least SAFE until the ambulance arrived. One had a crushed lung and a bleeding head injury and the other was in shock and wandering around, not knowing where he was. ITs the matter of minutes that can save a life..and if you can stop the bleeding, you can do just that. What a shame...

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

I have seen few days ago one lady in her mid forties. working with Public Health center-Head nurse(her nuniform says it all) driving her car in the middle lane of croniche road and she was reading pocket quran. she was driving soooooo slow . she held the quran with her left hand. all the way to Croniche to Toyota signal.

I wonder howmuch blessing she got by disturbing an entire lane of traffic..........

Only Policeman, Medical Services and Military can assit with first aid in road side accidents.  The Police can and will arrest you for coming to the aid of the injured.  This is fact.

I had heard that this rule had changed but i have not had it confirmed.

You can laugh at me all you like because I have Alzheimers, .......but at least I dont have Alzheimers

We were given the same advice in Kuwait about not stopping and helping by a Kuwaiti.

I suspect it's probably Guf wide advice

i thought you were on holiday for some reason!

Could you imagine if they start doing this! The courts will be packed congested with people with traffic fines and such! Madness! You will never change it out here , never not unless you make evryone sit new driving tests and teach people how to drive!! Its a case of ignorance and stupidity out here why the driving is so poor! Madness cant see it happening myself!

Let's stand at the side of the road and aim a hairdryer at speeding motorists.......just watch their faces !

Just recently the UK has clamped down hard on phone users on the road. It is illegal to have the phone in your hand whilst driving. Even if using bluetooth you cannot use the phone itself whilst on the move. It even goes on to include eating whilst driving, holding a map, holding a piece of paper, in fact doing anything that can distract the driver, think it's called something like "not being in charge of a vehicle".

WHO ARE THESE ???

Check out who park inside the round abouts park and chat with friends.

Check after 9pm till late midnight in front of the Q-Tel/ Q-Tel Signal after the home centre/ - WHO parks in the middle of the Road.

Check out who does the tricks of making tyre marks in circles.

Check out who drives just behind your vehicle hardly leaving a 1foot space trying to push you off the track..

Its none others but we all know. Its the right of a CITIZEN.

Even if they are fined who cares, who knows,????

Let's get to it, I'll go with you on that... last nite while at the car wash I stood on the road and counted at least 25 drivers barking away on their cell fones while whizzing past the busy Matar Kadeem traffic. Did I mention at least 2 cop cars were in the vicinity at that time and did nothing bout it. Then suddenly I see another cop car driving past and the COP on the cell fone as well...

I gave up and walked back into the carwash office.

Lots needs to be done to enforce Traffic Law.

We've had many debates on here regarding Speeding, Red Lights, Kids not in child seats. We've seen cars come at us in the wrong lane to avoid traffic. Drivers on mobiles or texting ignoring other road users. Parking wherever it suits etc etc etc

Has anyone ever seen a police car chasing a speeder ?

Give me a blue light and a ticket book ! I'll be so busy !

on the way to school ... around 7am down at the c ring road just before you turn left to al saad, there was a guy got run over by a pick up. Few people around it but no one doing anything. I can't stop the car because 4 lanes packed with the crowd and further more my husband always tell me to be careful because the law in the middle east if you help someone's and he is dying and he die when he/she under your care, you will be responsible for it??? Is that true?

And i wish the authority build more cross bridges around the city ... it is scarey try to cross the road here :-(

Usally its coz of a few rash drivers that the rest of us have to bear the consequences.. Like getting wacked while ur waiting at a red light.. If only People had some road sense we wouldnt have had such a high accident rate here in Doha... All the SUV driving jackasses out there...

Only if they enforce it amongst Qataris. Which is doubtful.
