Ok so ive been here just over a week now, and whilst shopping is fun *rolls eyes*, there is only so much i can stand. Is there anywhere close to Villagio or the Landmark where i can grab a social beer with other expats on a thursday / friday afternoon or evening?
so there was an elderly woman taken to the home by her children as there is nobody to look after her. The home was very clean, quite expensive too, they have nice gardens, wide screen tv's, private rooms and a lot of activities to do. THe caregivers are very professional and caring too.
The old lady, weak, tired and disappointed with her children, sits on her wheel chair everyday and everytime she is falling to one side, a nurse is there all the time to straigthen her up. This happens almost everyday.
One weekend, her children visited her and asked how is her new home. The grandma said "Everybody is so friendly and the place is great, but the friggin' nurses won't let me fart!"
LOL joann, i am discreet. I sort of lean a little to one side and they sneak out. I then frown at everyone stood around me to try and spread the blame a little. Requires practise, but as the old saying goes, practise makes perfect LOL
Saturdays, I go to malls with my family or just stay at home and watch 2 or 3 good DVDs.
Pub and sports are acceptable...but do you really have to fart in public? :) I like sharing jokes also, sometimes even practical ones too.
Here is one true story.
I work as Secretary/Administrator for a big company, one time my colleague (I will not mention nationality) asked for a new mouse as her mouse is defective. So I gave her one and told her to install it. She came back to me holding the "new" mouse and said "There is no slot to put the mouse in". So I went to her PC and checked the slots available from the back of her CPU, it was under her table. I saw a cable plugged and tried to pull it and see what was plugged. The "old" mouse is still plugged in! That's why she cannot plug her "new" mouse. I almost died laughing at this "innocence or ignorance". Poor girl, I told her how to do it but I was still laughing even when I got home.
All i really need is a pub where i can chill on a weekend, watch some sport, fart a bit, and share stupid jokes with the guys. Yes, i am a man-pig, and proud :D
templar - totally agree this site is fantastic to inform you before making the plunge. I myself did the same and used it before commiting to the move last year. Very informative and a lot of decent people (as well as one or two jerks!)
I never really considered Doha as a "social" place. Yes, there are "some" good places to visit and things to do, but not so much, unlike in our own countries, ofcourse.
I do enjoy going out with my family to the beach and corniche, malls, etc. But that's it. You must have lots of family and friends around if you want to stay "sane" in this country.
Yea ive been here quite a bit on business before i moved here, and before i moved i thought i'd better come check out the lay of the land with the people who actually live here, so been a member for about a month before i moved! This is a real useful site (not today though as ive gotten f@@K all work done - i have however accumulated another 30 QL posting points!!) prior to a move, and also now that im finally here.
And on that note, thanks to all who have given advice in the past! much appreciated!
