Is Qatar's Crime Rate On The Rise ?
We read in the newspapers and heard from people around us about cases of snatch thefts, shops break-ins, pick pockets, etc which we could hardly notice a year or two ago.
Is the crime rate is Qatar on the rise ? What happens to this peaceful country ? Why are people coming here to commit crimes ? Are people committing the crimes desperate enough ?
...
I don't want to spread rumour , but I have heard of at least one such case from reliable source that a women standing in quiet lane/place somebody comes put his pant down at some distance and in no moment disappears. Have anybody else come across such cases?
doha is that safe as it used to be with the influcks of foreigners, from the top end highly educated people to the lowest end uneducated labour, all ffrom different background...it is a matter of time, crime rate will increase...........................................!!! take care of your self.
I’ll admit I have not read what the experts say regarding social-economic factors and their link to crime but regarding the situation here in Qatar I think it’s pretty obvious.
You have laborers who are worked like slaves and treated quite frankly like animals. I have made it a habit in my short time here to bring water and fruit to the laborers in my community. When I speak with them their stories are always the same. They’re usually 10 people to a room working 6 days a week and getting paid around 700 QR a month. They haven’t seen their families for God knows how long. Some of them are as old as my father (well past their working years).
I’ve lived my whole life in the US and have always been involved in community feeding programs etc. No place is perfect, but in the US laborers can send their children to public school; they can get tuition assistance and go to College. At least a hardworking father knows his children will have the opportunity to create a better future.
I am completely and utterly disheartened by the treatment of the workers here and I hope and pray I never become desensitized to it.

I did not hear about that now, but i heard about it before. Most of these people if you look at them you will find that most of them are from the labors. The reason is really so obvious and no one can deny that, these people did not get paid their salaries for like 4, 5, 6 months or even more. I know that someone would come to say something like, this is not a good reason to steal from other people. I'm with you guys, there is nothing or any acceptable reason for committing such crimes. Just one question that I want to ask everyone, Did you ever have the same problem before? Working 4 or 6 months for free without getting paid? I guess that the answer would be no. It is really very hard for anyone to endure that, especially these people are getting paid nothing at all [400 or 700 Q.R per month] and have their families and the other people that they got loans from before coming to here. Some will lose their houses, lands or even worse if they did not send that little amount of money every month. Some will lose what is much important than that, they will lose themselves and when they do they start committing crimes and hurt the others.
I worked in my company first of all for 4 months without getting paid a Cent and I' living with my parents until now and they were and still supporting me. After two months I felt like I'm working like a slave without getting paid anything, even my transportation I was taking money from my friends to go to work while no one knows about it. I was sometimes ... anyway, no need to talk more about it. So how about these guys who got no one to support them or help them?
I'm not defending these guys or encouraging them to do whatever they are doing, but ... there is no smoke without fire. We should look for the reasons behind these things instead of blaming people for these actions. Everyone see these guys lying here and there on the roads because they got no houses or can go back there before they finish their work.
Have some mercy for these people on earth, so god would have some mercy for you.
Hmmm,
Here is a good read that concurs with what butterfly and monparan stated. http://www.preventingcrime.net/library/Causes_of_Crime.pdf
I do agree that crime in prosperous countries is less likely then those that are economically poor, I had thought that a possible reason for Qatar's increased (or at least perceived increase) in crime rate was due to economic expansion, but i think monparan hit it right on the money and the .pdf states something similiar, take a look at the section entitled "Social and economic disadvantage"
Could it be that as Qatar brings in more low wage workers (particularly in the construction industry) and the differences between the rich vs poor is causing an increase in crime? I don't know, I'm not an expert.
Something else to take a look at: http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/faculty/rwinslow/asia_pacific/qatar.html
agree, Monparan. Crime seen as a sympton of social tension as a result of the financial gap between the rich and the poor. And that gap can be pretty huge here in Doha
crime rate has to do with socio-economic factors, and you don't see the rich expat here running around racketeering, but those poor overworked slave-like labourers who are the cornerstone of any economy. you want to stay safe, be kind to the people who do the real work.

In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding.[1]
And you think this is my purpose....i'd love it if you DIDNT RESPOND and left me in peace
as for my jokes, they're all inspired by the godfather, first scenes, which is related to the crime rate, and a joke explained thanks to you is no longer a joke.
please do not respond to me. i dont want you to address anything to me personally or about me then i will respond back and then you'll be the forum troll...let's stop at this point. thanks.

look at the richest countries (now USA is just the exeption to the rule). Lets take Luuxembourg, Switzerland or Norway as examples, the crime rates are actually very very low. However when you look at "poor" countries in Africa or South America, these aevery dangerous in terms of crime. This is just common sense, the more prosperous a country is, the more efficiently crime will be fought.
II aagree with Nouf's point, crime in Qatar has only very recently started to be openly published.
There are always people looking to scam the wealthy, as a nations wealth increases there is always going to be some type of person to take advantage of other people for their own profit.
nouf84 does bring up a very valid point i did not consider and i believe makes perfect sense, if the media is just now reporting the crime then that also offers an explanation why the community is hearing more about the crime in Qatar.
Take it as you will, I would like to know if there are any statistics about Qatar's crime rates over the past few years and if these statistics are available to the public
Edit: to clarify what i ment, Prosperity will usually lead to an increase in crime because there is an increase of potential wealthy targets, Crime can and will also rise in poorer nations like you stated butterfly.
Monparan,
I fail to see how talking about don corleone and a dead camel's head in your bed has anything to do with the crime rate in Qatar, If it was an attempt at a joke i apologize, but really.. you gotta work on your jokes a bit more :P

still safer then some other part of theworld, don't u agree ?
prprosperity=crime???? it s pretty much the opposite. Prosperous countries enjoy much more safety and lower crime than poorer countries. Crime is a symptom of social stress, like in South America, where wealth is enjoyed only by a lucky few and there is a huge gap between the poor and the rich.
I
i'm not sputnik....i'd rather be apollo...and...i'm trying to add some humor ... i see ppl here have no sense of humor :P

I do agree with you kofe...there are few people like this..
Umm... bro.. i don't see how that relates to the topic..
oh no.. not another highjacked thread... hmm lets view profile... user for one week.. ok.. low post rate..... and on his friends list.. sputnik!!
random.. incoherent talk..
a thread that he started about a western gf coming to live with him....
I'll wager its sputnik,silverspear,cute, etc...
Seriously.. isn't there some policy in place to block/ban forum trolls?
If there is economic prosperity then there is bound to be some crime that follows suit, there is always someone looking to make a quick buck.. Unfortunetly there are some who do not wish to make an honest quick buck :(
An alternative reason why there may be crime in Qatar would be out of necessity, there are alot of workers who are abandoned by corrupt companies and are left to fend for themselves, at this time Qatar does not have an easy means of getting help if your in that situation and when it comes down to surviving then people will not hesitate to steal or commit a crime just to make ends meet.
Thats my .02 cents
oh yeah? how can you explain the poor dead camel's head i had to wake up to this morning (in my bed)? I"M NOT GONNA GIVE THAT ROLE TO JOHNNY FONTAINE

crimes because they are desperate out here and not paid enough. We got broekn into and we know it was one of the maintance guys who broke into our house, i even felt sorry for the robber for being so desperate he had to break in!
Its petty crime which is rife out here and its getting worse, but then it is everywhere else in the world.
At least theres no gang and gun violence out here and i dont have to worry about kids running about with knifes and guns! Thats the main thing!
Its
