its the little things

It is the little things that help create a civilized first world society. Anarchy reigns when the little problems in a country are not solved. Take New York 10 years ago, the then Mayor, the famous RG, started cracking down on petty crime and with this came a huge reduction in the serious crime rate in Manhattan. What is really getting to me today is the arrogance or is it ignorance of the certain people in this city. Driving to fetch my son from school i was nearly run off the road by a landcruiser big surprise, got near the school and two of them were parked alongside each other on opposite sides of the road chatting, blocking the road so everyone else had to go onto the pavement but determined not to move for anyone. I then drove over a pepsi bottle which some stupid idiot had thrown out their window and popped my tyre. 2 week old car, 6 month old baby, 3 year old boy, midday heat and did anyone offer to help me lift this bloody heavy 4wd tyre. Nope, called my husband in the end. If the little things like basic etiquette on the roads, simple good manners, and a little effort expended putting your trash in the bin don't exist, what sort of moral values actually do, i'm really scared to ask!!! Having a bad day, obviously!!!!!

you should really try to go. It is spectacularly beautiful up in the mountains. It's the most beautiful country I've ever been to. I trekked to Everest Base Camp...phew...I complained a lot and kept asking 'are we there yet?...how much longer? and my guide would always 'say just up there' pointing his finger to nothing in the air. But the sheer beauty blew me away.

I think my scariest is going round a round a mountain in Nepal on a rickety old bus which was packed with people and livestock. The bus kept leaning out over the cliff edge. it was the most terrifying eight hours of my life. However the sheer and utter beauty of the destination made up for the ride!

Ciao Alexa,

When I was in Beijing quite a few years ago we cycled around the city. It was great fun. Now I think there are too many cars to do that safely. I should go back and see someday.

My experiences of French driving are sitting in the back of cars with white knuckles as various chauffeurs proceed to drive at top speed no more than 10cm away from the car in front. No matter what I say these drivers seem unable to drive in another way. As sad and tragic as it is, it is no surprise to me that Diana died with a French driver going at top speed. Apparently she may have survived if she was wearing her seatbelt.

and speaking of Rome, it is one of the scariest places to drive in, especially in the city centre...rules go out the window!!! Ironic really as the Romans built great road infrastructures...

Awww sorry to hear that u had to go through that river-rat. We all have bad days, especially bad driving days here in Qatar and so we come to QL to vent out :-) Yes I totally agree, alot of people in this country need to learn the etiquette and courtesy of driving, I think driving on the road is all about respect, if u respect others then u'll drive safely and none of the craziness we see going on would happen. Hopefully, things will change (im being optimissitic today lol) but they're going to take a looooooooong time. Rome wasn't built in a day u know ;)

its good you mentioned certain people....becausee i saw landcruisers (plural) and other cars, who had pulled up alongside the mesaieed road this morning to help a guy out of a car that had toppled over.must have been morning adrenalin rush for all of them to try to do their bit.

sadly it was a bad day for you, but dont judge the nation by this experience. it takes all sorts of people to make a society.

insha'allah tomorrow will be different.

as individuals we must always try to help if we can or atleast try to get help.

have a nice day.

happy heart

DRIVE SAFE,someone is waiting for you at home
