Weather Proofing Doors

Help! For some reasons the doors to our villa are not weather/dust/rain proof! We have found weather striping for the bottoms of the doors (they looks like little brooms/dusters attached to a metal stip and screwed on to the bottom of the door), but need to find weather striping for the tops and sides. We have looked and asked EVERYWHERE! Either we are using the wrong words to describe what we need to do/find or it simply is not available here. But quite honestly, what a waste (of life, cleaning and energy...) when you can see and the great outdoors through the sides and tops of your doors! Please HELP!

The metal broom-like attachments for the bottom of the doors can be bought at any hardware store and if I remember correctly, they are refered to as door sweeps? Not that cheap, but definitely worth your while.

Hey.

They have those thingies in Hyatt Plaza at the first floor in the little Japaneese/Chineese wholelotofcrap-shop.

I found them there about a year ago, and they had all sizes.

It actually works. Before we almost had an permanent sand-pitt inside the house in front of our front door, now there is never any sand.

Good luck.

Artax.

OK - thanks.

Don't know about sponge strips made exactly for doors but they do sell double-stick foam "tape." It would probaby work or at least help. I probably bought the roll I have a Giant or Carrefour.

The handy-man that has been doing work around our villa bought them. I will find out where he found them and let you know.

I do have a maid. Thank you.

You said you can find the adhesive sponge strips here. Can you tell me where? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion to get them from the States. May just order them online myself.

No, you are right. You can't avoid the dust, but you can be smart about the energy consumption (see notes on the utility bills re: conserving energy!) and quite frankly I think it foolish of landlords/construction companies that put indoor doors on the outside! I am not a construction worker, but I am smart enough to know the difference between a door that is weather proofed (i.e. made for the outsdie) and one that isn't! I can stand in front of my OUTSIDE doors and feel and SEE the warm air (along with dust!) penetrating the house. I'm not asking for a dust-free environment in the desert! Just common sense!!!!!

Where did you find the ones for the bottom of the doors?

Thats what you are looking for. Dust would penetrate the windows. A/Cs, exhaust fans and not only the door.

BUT for your case, you need to look for adhesive sponge strips. They come in rolls about 1 cm wide and one side is adhesive. But the quality of such things here is not good. If you somebody coming from the States, there you find good quality sponge strips.

Alternatively, you can hire a maid if you don't have.
