Hi. Does anyone know of any English speaking middle/high school with a boarding facility in Qatar? If not, is there anyone who has a child/children in a boarding school elsewhere? In what country? Any information will be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Hi mama-e,

I used to live in Qatar for two years but I don't know much about it. But I heard of things like education plays a pivotal role in Qatar’s development programs. The government has been quick to realize the importance of improving the educational infrastructures, and oil has provided the money to do so.

One school maybe is the Qatar Leadership Academy, it is a boarding school for boys that promotes excellence in four key areas of academic studies, leadership, heritage and Islamic studies, and sports.

Hope this helps.

This is a good question. You sound very serious about your childs education.

In the UK most boarding schools will exceed your expectations in terms of sport and activities (many incur extra costs). The downside is that they are usually more expensive then schools in America. And he will have to commit to his A levels (associate degree at collage) before he will be accepted to University here in the UK.

My daughters school costs about £16,000 a year for day school and I believe boarding school reaches up to £26k. It is the best in our area and certainly NOT the best or most expensive in the country. So if you are looking for something prestigious then the fees will be considerably more.

Here is a link to the top 30 boarding schools in America (which may be your best option).

i don't think it is a good idea to send your kids to boarding school.

The teen boarding schools are for those teens that are facing problems in their life. These schools provide rational education so that a teen would be a perfect man. The teen boarding schools make same programs as those of traditional private boarding schools. It is the sameness between them.

Dear mama-e,

I think that you will find that there are not many boarding schools located in the centre of London and that they may be rather more expensive than boarding schools elsewhere in the U.K. As a rule, the cost of a place at a day school in London is almost the same as as a boarding place in other parts of the country! If your child is not going to the airport every week, then I would look at schools further out from the capital. I used to teach at Norman Court School, near Salisbury, but maybe that is not much of a recommendation! There is an organisation in the U.K. called ISIS (the Independent Schools' Information Service). If your child is between the ages of 8 and 13 years old, then you could also contact the IAPS. (I cannot remember exactly what IAPS stands for, but it is the organisation for preparatory schools.)

Try the British Embassy here in Doha. I'm sure they will have info. Also the British council may be able to recommend schools.

Lots of boarding schools in the UK. Just Google.co.uk 'London Boarding Schools'. Quite a few in or near London so you can fly in and drive easily to them.

Hi mama-e

Our son went to Darlington School in Rome, GA. It is a wonderful boarding school but it high school only. Friends of ours sent their son to one in Massachusetts, I'm sorry I cannot remember the name. He was in 7th grade when he went. I think it was Eagle something - sorry senelity really sucks. I don't think there are many in the US that offer boarding for Middle School. Best of luck.
