working days (holiday) - how are they calculated?

I am working for the government sector working 5 days a week.

how r they calculated?

when you say government do you mean any of the authorities over here or ministries? If its authorities/corporations working days are considered whereas in ministries its just normal days.

Thats correct ooo... Leaves are calculated based on working days not on calender days...

If you took a two week holiday you would need just 10 working days, week ends don't count. X working day leave means X working days not X any day! Go spell it out to your HR dept!

First of all, you can ask te human resources department and they should give you a clear answer.

However, if you apply for 5 days starting on sunday till thursday then you are entitled for 5 days. But be carefull. This is true if what you are getting is paid leave. i.e. if you have sufficient leave balance.

If you don't have sufficient balance, then the leave is considered unpaid and in such case weekends are included and added to the leave duration, hence they will calculate it as 9 days.
