Finding Address is difficult in Qatar for New comers

Finding address is very difficult for new comers in Doha, as most of the Sign Boards in front of shops will write their PO box and CR Number.

Instead if they write the street name on their signBoards, new people can remeber the names of some streets fast and will be easy for them to reachand even tell Blessed Karwa taxi.

Another option is to go to the Garmin website (www.garmin.com) or follow this link:

http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/ontheRoad/

Then click on the drop down box for Mapsource Map Viewer and select City Navigator Middle East v3 from the list. This will launch a popup application with a large scale map of the Middle East. Just double click on the map in the area (Qatar) that you want to view. It will progressively zoom in to Doha. This is the same map that some people have on their GPS. It is pretty accurate and has a lot of useful information.

Areas outside Doha (e.g. Al Khor) are more detailed than those on the gisqatar site.

The great thing with this site is that it has maps from all over the world. It is also a good way to preview what you will get when you buy a map for your Garmin GPS.

Enjoy!!!

Enjoy

There are several good maps for Qatar and you can get them at Jarir Bookstore or straight from the Qatari government at the Center for GIS in the Urban Planning and Developement Authority building which is now over by the City Center Mall/Diplomatic Distric, Zone 61, Street 837, phone 495-5555 they also have an updated map on the web at http://www.gisqatar.org.qa/ExploreEn/. Good Luck

I never seen anyone using a map in Qatar. seen GPS and saw people using maps in the West but people using maps in Qatar you gotta be kidding.

Qatar Tourism Authority spends so much money on Qatar Festival why can;t they come up with a decent map?

The tourists who come here must be bewildered from the fact that the houses don;t have numbers and they cannot get anywhere without the help of locals. Qatar has so many 200 metres roads that if the Qatar Tourism Authority comes up with a map all you would see is the strange names of the roads on the map.

It was so because previously there was no much landmarks.

Previously it was "round-abouts", "Souq", "CityCentre"

& "Shereton"

Now there are a lot of unique & different looking bldgs comming up & it is for you and me to use such landmarks in our conversation as much as possible.
