When my husband decided to take the offer to work in Qatar we were planning 10 yrs. Done 6. And so far so good. We probably will be here longer than we plan.
Actually, King doesn't have to really work on his french before going cause it'll come naturally. My friend went to Montreal with the very basic french and came back as the romantic french Jean-pierre Oui Oui!
A couple of years ago I went to visit a Chinese friend in Spain who was working as an interpreter with Cirque du Soleil for all the Chinese acrobats, and we spent new years eve in their hotel with all the Quebecois, who were really cool people. I liked them a lot.
I was thinking about emigrating and getting a different nationality over the past couple of years and thought Canada/Quebec was an attractive proposition.
Been here in Qatar for 2 years 3 months and 3 days.
Never realized that I've been in Qatar this long since I bury myself with work all the time. Worked myself from early morning till late at night so when I go back to my accommodation, I went straight to bed. Weekends were laundry and sleep days for me.
When I met my MAN, I began socializing and saw Doha in a different perspective...still a BORING place with bored people (like me)...then QL came into the picture while I'm searching for a boat rental/fishing site...
HOW LONG will I stay here? I guess, another 2 - 4 years (OMG) until
my teenager finishes her university degree. I can't tell as my company may transfer me to another branch (outside QATAR, I hope)..
would ever teach humans something, it would've teach the people here a lot as much as they stare at people, for a reason .. for no reason .. or for just having both.
ROFL! I don't know if you'll learn much French that way! Don't worry so much about it, everyone in Quebec speaks English they just don't like to because they think its a threat to their unique culture. :P

got Rosseta Stone software there to start with, hope that it work fine for me or I would be posting on QL something like .. Looking for a female speaking French to talk and exchange experiences and .. don't forget also that last part .. having fun LOL , my god can't help it but laugh as much as I can when seeing those strange and awkward requests.
still not sure, they say somewhere near 'Saint Lawrence River' , don't know the area but will ask her for the details later. So you've been here for 2 years ... you are a survivor and .. you did not get bored yet? Silly question cuz I know that you get used to it somehow, can't say the same about myself. The only reason for me to be alive until now is being a Zombie for sure ... gotta show my face in Resident Evil movie ..part 3 with Ali Larter and the gang ..
good morning... yes its awful and painful but i take it as a challenge good that Qatar gov't don't take one side even my employer is a pure local they will deserve what they need to deserve....
the first year of my life here was nightmare...after work we were taken back to our accomodation and locked up never had a chance to see what life outside never been to malls or look around but i try to abscond the accomodation go straight to Qatar Labor and they do the necessary action against my employer. I was released from my employer and I have given the chance to work in a good company only now i started to mingle and join with other friends and i'm happy to find QL to know more people around me and to see what life i missed for the past years i was here...thanks guys that you're around...HAVE A NICE WEEKEND
I agree with that but life wasn't that bad was it even though there was only one bar (QP Offshore Falcon Club)?
Anyone living outside the "C" ring was out in the sticks.
The Caravan only sold boiled rice at their location in town and the upstairs restaurant seated about 20 and you had to be very "quite" if you used the loo (that's put a smile on my face).
If you went past the Sheraton you needed a 4 wheel drive to get past the dredger that was there for years.
Palm Island hadn't been constructed and we hadn't laughed at the trucks (on barges) trying to tip soil to make the island when there was a shemal blowing and the soil was going anywhere except where they wanted it.
to be vair..it has developed into somehting...imagine a time when the only hangout was QBC...or there was basically no corniche....no cloud9 plaomas admirals ritz mariott blah blah blah...just oasis gulf hotel and sheraton...muntaza signal was a roundabout...xcept for gulf/doha cinema there were no cinemas...hmmm seems tuff init....
I came here in 1995 after livin in several other gulf and african counrties since then am here graduated here and since then am workin here.next will plan where to go.may be next 3 years.
I came to Qatar on 22 Sept. 1977 as thats the day I was born in Hamdi Hospital.. :)
My father came here in 1952 and he is now Mashallah 82 years old... Whole of my family is here imcluding my uncles and aunts and cousins. I am settled here, like the peace and the sun... so I am trying to start something of my own (well with 51% Free Qatari ownership)... No planz to move out to any other green pastures, but as they say... "Who knows... "
and I don't think that I'm the same person that I used to be. Looking for another two years here and after that Quebec would be hopefully my last destination.
Telljax I salute and respect u for being able to stay here that long.
Not offending anyone!! Qatar is still an empty barren land somehow.
and it will still remain like that if they don’t remove the slavery system that they have which is covered under the name "Sponsorship". I came here a year and a half ago and since day 1 I stated thinking what the hell is this place? After 2 months I started planning to leave looking into my options, and than I decided to give it a chance which ended after 4 months of struggling and started to look into my options again!! And decided it is best for me to leave as soon as possible!! And NO I am not planning to go to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain etc etc…. they are all the same for me. I am a person who needs the freedom to come and go as pleased and not BEG!! To go. Some will not understand, and some will even say poor guy he must be not getting paid well bla bla… I work for an international company and they pay well but … I just couldn’t adapt to the country as in way of living, society, facilities….. and people (not all some ). So as soon as I find something somewhere else I am out of here and never to think to come back or even recommend people to come and live here.
almost now and hate to think how many years longer we will be out here. kepp hoping all this sun would result in a lovely sunkissed tan but to no avial im whiter than when i first came out here now.
guess we will stick around till we have made our millions lol!
I will never understand why some people choose to leave their civilized beautiful countries in the west and come here...any way I have been here for 5 years now, and I intend to stay here for the rest of my life if that is what it takes to stay away from hideous Egypt
miss... i was bloody joking there. I know what kind of woman you are. Dont blame you want to getting out of Doha ... you waste your 'youth' living here permanently.
came here on nov 21, 1990 wen i was in grade 3!... finishd my schooling here, and went for my bachelors in architecture... got bak last year, and now lookin for somewher to do my masters... after my masters, i'll b back here if they get rid of the sponsorship slavery.. else i'll be outta here, searching for greener pastures....

I've been here almost 3 years.
After the first year it was still new and I was having a good time, thought I could stick it out for 10 years.
After the second year I started counting the weeks 'till my next trip outta here. Planning on staying for 7 years total.
Now, coming upon my 3rd year, I'm counting the days 'till I'm on the plane home for summer. Planning on staying for 5 years total.
Then I'll hopefully be able to go home if I choose and work in a job I look forward to going to everyday, regardless of the paycheque.
i am not sure wether you are being sarcastic Darude?
try from salwa road that will help you the last bridge on salwa get on it simple.

I don't think so Novita, I'm not up to being a multiple wife, not my style. I was thinking more along the lines of getting out of Doha in two years.
