Why Would She Do This??

You know who you are!

Someone explain please! I was in the Mall shopping centre the other day happily doing my shopping when I saw this monstrosity! It was unbelievable! She was tall, blonde and about size 18 squeezed into these tiny, tiny , tiny pair of shorts, with a tiny, tiny, tiny tight white sleevless top on and you could see everything!!!! And she was western!

I mean I remember being told out here you “ keep your knees and shoulders covered “ when out in public and always abide by this! I mean come on girls we all know how bad the stares are out here! So why would she do this ? and when did it become acceptable to flaunt oneselvef in such a manner? I mean grrrrrr! Come on!

"is it because if they get a tan they have to show it off "

lol, possible!

Bless you charmed! She should’ve been more considerate. I don’t know how any woman could dress like that in Qatar amongst the poor hungry laborers!!

There is this tv show “dress me”..in the UK I think.. they had this woman who dresses like a **** but she’s sooo not.. and they taught her how to get dressed in a way to make the good impression on men to get a healthy promising date! I guess the woman you talked about should go to one of these tv make over shows hehe

Generally speaking, surly, a woman dressed like that would get A LOT of unwanted kind of attention.

What are you talking about! I think is great that there is less and less presure for us to dress according to our own taste and criteria.

Does that mean that is ok now to wear little skirts or strapless tops or above the kneew shorts. Great! I was looking forward to that!

why would she do this? Who cares? Maybe she just felt comfortable enough to do it. Maybe she is not the self concious chicken that I am when it comes to stares. Maybe she doesn´t give a crap what people think, and why should she?

Now, a size 18 and wearing shorts??? True, it doesn´t sound very stylish...

Remember Few months age an American lady who divorce and landed a job in Qatar who was looking for a Rich Qatari to get married.

I think your description perfectly match with that lady.

that she was dressed like this! i just dont understand why people would do this ( she was food shopping so lives here!)! is it because if they get a tan they have to show it off ? Its gross the standards seem to be sliping here im seeing more and more women walking about with it all on show! ( and yep i bet she was british too!) If it makes me stare ( cant help it ) surely then it would make the men stare even more - do they like / want this attention?

i don't think dressing like this is right. you can look lovely and have your bits covered. i have thought what the hell is she thinking....

qataris have often told me they dont like this and feel uncomftable at shopping malls when they see this.

yes you find this in all places but this place is qatar.

a bit of discretion wouldn't do any harm and people respect you more if you in turn show respect to their values.

Why?Because she does not respect the rules and for me is sure she is egoiste and only thinking about herself and her comfort and fun.

Peoples like her you find in any place and any country, not only in Doha.:-(

It's not only a british thing, nor is it a "people on vacation" thing. There are alot of newcomers, and as more diverse people start coming, the atmosphere is somewhat going to change. Take dubai for an example, it wasn't like that 10 years ago. The city is starting to open up and that has it's pros and cons.

I totally agree with you. I love people watching in City Centre (I am the person in Starbucks pretending to read the paper) and often see the "stopover" crowds. These seem to be British people who are en route to Thailand or other exotic destinations. They feel that the holiday has already started and walk around with vests, bikinis and shorts looking for tax free bargains. It is sometimes enough to make you cringe as the western expats I have met here seem to make a huge effort to behave according to the rules. It is a bit like going to Majorca and watching the brits eat egg and chips. (although nothing wrong with egg and chips). I am lucky enough to hold a Greek passport as well as English so can pretend that it is nothing to do with me! Lots of lovely things about the British as well though, the dogs and cats would be lost here without them.

Don't the police here have power to arrest such a person ?

Yeah I've seen similar sights too lately, especially in Villageo. I guess Qatar is changing.
