Suggestions to stop this flooding...

I wonder if the QL site has the capability to track the IP address of this person. How about takes sometime to get activated after registering to QL with a verified and authenticated personal/free email address. Once approved, he/she can't create yet his/her own foru m/classified unless she/he participated or post in one or two forum topics. And also, check first the profile created if answered properly e.g. Job Title : Consultant not just C only. What do you think? any suggestions QL'ers

was blocked by Wikipedia.com due to vandalism & spam. Apparently, this the same ip address was distributed by Qtel to several subscribers, this the same IP address is being used by my friend and unfortunately my stalker and his/her accomplice whenever he's at work.

So, it's really hard to ban a certain IP address, because all those Qtel Internet subcribers using that IP will not be able to access wikipedia.com (sorry, need to edited out google (as the earlier post- erratum).

It's also difficult to trace whose the spammer of one global IP address with several local IP (LAN)

I am also in a mission tracking IP ;-( and I am learning thanks to you "stalker"

I don't know if I explain it right, just wanted to share an experience tracking an IP and a "stalker"

Cheers,

Agree completely with comments above. Thanks QL and ahmed for your work and diligence in managing this. It's a nuisance and I know you have better things to do with your time, but zero-tolerance is the answer. I think we all appreciate your effort and quick action.

Maybe sabateur will have his allowance cut off by his mommy and daddy if he doesn't go outside and play with the other kids once in a while. (We can hope--people like this can't really have normal, healthy, mature relationships with other people can they?)

As for IP filtering, it might be easier on this side of QTel firewalls if Qtel doesn't use internal NATting within the country. Of course, the person might be behind a corporate NAT firewall in which case IP filtering won't work.

Better answer is some sort of graduated licensing program for new members. Don't know how easy that would be to set up though. I'm sure there's enough brains around to figure out a good alternative--one that still welcomes new members while making sure that they're serious. Maybe new member posts can go into a quarantine until a moderator reviews them?

If you did something could that be the reason I'm having such a hard time accessing QL?

and this is one of Q-Tel's problems as well. How can the people share the same IP? Means that if that IP was reserved for that person and I try to deal in, then the server won't let me and will keep me on hold. Don't know about them, but they did start IPv6, right?

Yup, IP blocking is not the way to go, because QTel has multiple users for the same IP. I did that once to ban a spammer and had a lot of users email me that they couldn't access the site. We've made some headway in blocking spam today, I'm waiting to see if it works or not. I'm not gonna post what we did, simply because then the spammer will know as well :o)

Thanks guys for the ideas. We're actively trying to figure this out.

Sometimes the IP address is shared by more than one person so you can't ban 100 people for one idiot's transgression.

if control could be done of course the better...because if these flooding wont stop, and the site still would be super slow, i think its not worth the time u spend here w/ very little interaction or reading done.

agreed with your comments.

A tighter control of QL is needed, I think a few more administrators of the site are required to instantly block these people too.
