why does the EX-PATS hate lebanese

fminkara
By fminkara

Hello every one, I have been in a few countries during my last job. During this job I had to travel to UAE, IRAN, LIBERIA, NIGERIA, and GHANA. Now I am in QATAR, with a new company. The thing that I have noticed in every country, is that other the EX-PATS really hate us, including, and sometimes especially other arabic Expats. The most people I've felt that they hate us are the JORDANIAN( palistenian ), and am not gona talk about the egyptians!!!!

Has anybody experienced similar discrimination ????

If someone doesnt like Lebanese what are you gonna do? kill him, force him to like the Lebanese?

The moral of the story guys is that you shouldn't say things you might regret.

Also, If you attack someone and things don't go your way, you can't blame the other for defending themself.

We don't want people to Hate us for our nationality, and most people don't. For the small few who do, just remember what the source of the problem is. It is the hate in you, not the fact that we are good at defending ourselves, that is the problem.

I think that an agressive attitude, choice of bad words when talking to people, a dirty mouth, an arrogant character, lack of education (including terrible English spelling) and lack of self-respect are all factors that make people hate a person/a nation.

I wonder why people hate you (as you claim), even though you don't have any of the above!

I guess they are failing to see the angel in you.

Just a quick update... I know its a confusing thread.

"FMinkara" is a new guy in Doha and has been copping alot of flak for his nationality.

The Thread was Hijacked along the way and sidetracked a bit to other loosely related issues.

The Thread has nothing to do with Canadians, and is not by any means anti-Canadian.

It is ethnically neutral promoting better fellings towards Lebanese.

my greeting to every one hope u had a good day at work.

Any way for those who miss understood me for those pelstnien people who live in leb i really love and respecet them and i know some of them are nice people and some are just fools and popets in the hand of the great popetier anyway i don't hate them as i said and i wrote i feel not only for me but twords all lebanese

1-they feel we are taking their land as in fact this is not their land and we are hosting them in our land

2-they feel we are taking their jobs as infact a company don't care where are u from as long as ur the perfecet man/women for the job

and the bases for my argument as i told before anyone who wants to join the conversation please read it from top to bottom. this is the simplest and most effective way so that u don't ask some silly question.

and for the canadain girl whether u slap ur country or not that a thing between u and ur people i can't judge u i can judge who is from own country.

For the person who impleneted on my hatres for syrien and bieng such as smart a.. and said that the most people who are harmed in this world are the pelestinien and not the jew. you reallly are a silly and stuppied man and i will explain it for u am gona go down to ur level of education and explain to u what i said:

if the jews are able to forgive the natzi for the holycast i will forgive the syrien

and when the people of france forgive hitler for invading their country then i might forgive them

we should never forget what the syrien regin have done in leb for theirty years from killing boming kidnaping raping stealling etc....

in the end am a person am not a god to turn the next side to be slaped

Rocky I think it's quite obvious at this point that you are incapable of saying anything remotely intellectual, all you seem able to do is attempt to insult me, which I find amusing. I've asked a simple question which you are unable to answer and in frustration you have made personal attacks against me. It's hilarious really.

As for asking a Native Canadian, do you mean an Aboriginal Canadian (Of which my grandmother is one) or just someone born in Canada (which I, and 300 previous years of ancestors) was. Once again, I love my country, but I'm not delusional about it or the people in it.

I can't hate all people from one nationality because I met someone who is bad, right brother? I'm glad to have someone like you here and do accept your friendship and as I told you I got some Lebanese friends here and we are all nice and good to each other.

i second what nadt have just said.

this is why i took my palestinian manager as an example.

i know alot and alot of good palestinians and i feel more confortable with them then any other nationality since they hold similar values.

i do also feel very bad about whats going on in palestine and do trust me i will throw a huge party in the palestinians are to reclaim their land one day.

to portalfred i have no idea what to say rather than if you dont like it and as i've said to alot of pple either read the entire old thread or don't even botther commenting.

maybe one day ill copy past out of that thread to make my point but right now am off for lunch which is in my opinion more important thing in the world(FOOD) maybe we can at least agree on that.

as for Mr. king, 7abibi if you have a good heart and dont have anything against lebanese i would be honored to call you a brother just like i've called many palestinans before you.

and do trust me that their is no one as passionate as me when it comes to the palestinians rights and cause.

but as you have said all this is just a game in the hands of politicians that want more money more power no matter how rich and strong they become.

as for us, the poor people their is no reason on individual basis to live in harmoney and love. am i right bro?

Portalfred..The title of the thread is why ex-pats hate Lebanese....and the responses were all about Lebanese people hence why the arguments continued in that manner..Its only normal to defend yourself when people speak badly of you or your culture no matter what nationality you are. If it doesnt bother you thats fine butif it does, you should be able to reply...

Since King Edshel mentioned other Arab nationalities, im sure they will get a mention too.

I agree there is tension b/w leb/palestians but not all lebanese hate Palestinians...I for one love Palestinians and really hate the predicament they are in....

you are right that what is happening in Lebanon is not fair, but did these people choose to live there like that? A lot of them still got the keys to their taken houses and still dreaming [wake up guys] of going back :( I know from some Lebanese friends here that the Palestinians refugees there are prohibited from working in 120 jobs [just wondering what is left?] and their situation is bad [just look at their houses in the refugees camps]. Honestly I don't know who is responsible for that, but it is a game bigger than me and you. When it comes to the political matters, no one knows what the hell is going on :( Some people are using these guys for unknown demands and to archive something that they want.

Working for some company, does not mean that you should be satisfied with your boss no matter from where he is coming. Dear friend, I don't want to argue with anyone here but I always got that feeling when I introduce myself to some people. Oh Palestinian , that explains a lot and I have no idea what is with this attitude. You can't blame someone for others mistakes or hate him for that reason.

The good and the bad were and would always be there, there is no complete human race that can be good as well as being bad.

I followed your advice, went to read "lebanese boys & girls", felt disgusted from the posted topic actually, as it was full of self-air-pumping, and I could not read more than the 1st page because, and to my surprise, gypsy was being normal, while you were being aggressive with her!!

I also find it very unacceptable to wrongfully claim that Palestineas have werecked Lebanon.

Due to the above, and in order to maintain my love to Lebanon & the Lebanese people, I will just consider you as an exception to the rule (which is the good Lebanese people) and will gracefully withdraw from this fruitless discussions.

Cheers!

let me answer this king edshel,

one we dont hate palestinians as a race, although we do have something again palestenians living and actually wrecking lebanon for some reason or another.

i understand why rich gulf countries like qatar hosted the refugees back in the days but for lebanon to host them... we can barely host ourselves.

personally speaking i had too incident with two palestinans individuals. once i over heard a person on the phone naming lebanese as bit*** although he was working for a lebanese company.

the second time here in qatar when a palestinian guy claimed that the qatari goverment can't get anymore palestinans so they replace them with lebanese and philipino workers.

need i to continue!...

again on a personnel note i have a palestinian GM which i honestly consider like a father to me. he is one of classiest more respectable honest human i ever seen.

and his generosity blows me away(invited me over many times to sit with his family and have lunch) now for a person like that even if he's palestinian i would do anything because he's a real gentelman.

other then that i have nothing to say about the issue.

As for the Canadian comment, that was in reference to Fminkara's comment to me, please read all the posts before making comments so you don't appear to be quite so stupid.

welcome to the topic.

let me explain what fminkara and rocky were trying to explain.

its one thing to disscuss Leb problems like sectarian laws and maybe hozballah issue or the economics and general politics and totally another thing to start talking about lebanese banks financing plastic surgeries(stated by kelly).

i hope you can see the difference between these two point and what exactly are we trying to defend here.

in another issue, this thread like many more before was a result of a constant lebanese racist bashing by western sosciety.

ask gypsy she knows, she actually was in one of them remember"lebanese boys and girls" topic.

why do you look for that topic and see what has been written,

lebanese are better off working pizza delivery and Sh*t removers for us.

lebanese are the low class of our society and their no good for nothing

lebanese are so ugly that their women will spit in their faces!

that was a small preview of what have been said back then.

and yes gypsy i havent forgot that thread even though the lebanese community faught back nor have we forgotten who was part of that lebanese bashing.

Today my dear the lebanese fight back and trust me their is much much much more things to come.

just sit back and enjoy the show!

1st of all I'd like to say that a nation that has "Fiarouz" in it, is a nation that has all the right to be proud.

I think that when you people are fighting among yourselves here and calling each other names, you are giving reason to a lot of people to have a 2nd thought about the Lebanese.

Yes I don't agree with Gypsy's mentality in all here discussions in all other threads, but I agree with her that if you highlight some negative aspects about your country/society in order to discuss them & try to find solutions for them, then you are much more patriotic than those who give a blind eye to all the negativity & pretend that everything is perfect.

Now let's discuss the topic of this thread:

...I had to travel to UAE, IRAN, LIBERIA, NIGERIA, and GHANA. Now I am in QATAR....I have noticed in every country that other the EX-PATS really hate us, including, and sometimes especially other arabic expatriates. The most people I've felt that they hate us are the JORDANIAN( palistenian ), and am not gona talk about the egyptians!!!!

Has anybody experienced similar discrimination ????

-So are you feeling the hatred in all the above countries?

-Are there Jordanians & Palestineas in Iran, Liberia, Nigeria & Ghana?

-I don't see any Palestineas or Jordanians arguing with you here!

-Later you were concentrating on Syrians! Are they "better" or "worse" than Jordanians & Palestineans?

-Why are you "not gona talk about egyptians" after you have talked about Jordanians, Palestineans & Syrians?!

-As for your last question, and if you disregard all the fabricated media about the "Jewish suffering in Europe", I don't think that there is any nation on earth that has suffered from hatred & discrimination & tragedies more than the Palestinean....even in Jordan...and... Lebanon!

By asamarji• 8 Aug 2007 11:18

that was way out of topic.

who cares if the canadian are fat and have bad pilots, hell we dont even have an air force to start with but that not really the issue. we are not here to play who got the strongest army game cz that will simple be plain stupid.

rocky said that its not nice to put out our durty laundry infront of everyone ( which i agree ) cz it gives a bad image about our beloved country and you just snapped in his face.

gypy take a pill and relax a bit, if your confortable talking about how disscusting your country is infront the whole expat community then fine by me, be my guest. in the other hand if we dont feel that doing so is acceptable that should also be fine by everyone including yourself.

and why is that!?

well the reason is again based on social values, if in a family the parents had a fight, its not neccessary for the entire street to know about it.

if something bad happened in the family, it stays in the family and not run to consultant and god knows what and then its all over the new and shows like dr. phil and opera.

this kind of durty laundry exposure is not welcomed in leb due to something called the secrecy of the house which obvious the west is somehow lacking.

so stop arguing about something you dont understand because the more you talk the worse you will look.

thank you and god bless.

Finminkara, actually the Canadian airforce is not commanded by the Americans. And while we may have good pilots our Armed Forces are crap and pretty much ineffectual do to lack of funding from our government. Also yes we are suffering from a problem with obesity. It's causing major problems with our healthcare.

Do you consider me not a patriot because I admit to my countries problems and don't have delusions of grandeur about it?

2)Sweetheart, Read all my post till now. I ENTERED THIS CONVERSATION explain exactly why I think it's a bad thing to disrespect your country. Would you like more reasons?

3) Is it admitting defeat? To refuse to argue over common sense? Or is it maturity? I guess as the old addage goes.. "If you have to be told you will never really know". I don't have time with you to argue the obvious and for the sake of other readers I don't want to take this argument back to the stone age.

4) The comments about you were very relevant. In every post you seem to try and hijack the Topic and align it with your own personal agenda. To me that agenda is clearly and simply just to project some sort of feminist self image in every thread in Qatar Living. It's a tad too contrived don't you think?

I have only one word to describe someone who speaks about your country the way you do.. "MUJANASS".

You are a fake. I have serious reservations whether you have ever been to Lebanon.

Further, I intentionally ignored what you said because it is convulted and in my opion, a dead end argument. It has no substance and your objective is not clear. Fine for a schoolyard tiff but not on a Forum.

My point was that if you sincerely feel there is something about your country that needs fixing, then go about fixing it, not adevertising the problem to those who have neither the will nor means to do anything about it. Airing our dirty Laundry in a publuc forum only serves the egos of those who so badly would like to look down upon other peoples. I have yet to see another Nationality that criticises itself publicly here with such contempt as you seem to have for Lebanon and Lebanese.

Comment- This thread is like the "deaf dialogue".

Response- Seeing as it's a webpage, wouldn't you be better using the words "Blind Dialogue". LMAO! Well said champ.

I have been a patron of this website for months and often refrain from entering a conversation due to people like GYPSY impose their views on a thread and sidetrack it beyond the point of recognition. No research Needed, I am sad to say.

Further, should we start pulling out of the closet examples of where you have trashed people by going through their history and picking their quotes from old posts? This Forum is littered with examples of you doing so.

You are very brave sitting there attacking your country behind the safety of a computer screen. Very Brave Indeed. It really shows your quality. With talk like that though you would not last a single day in Lebanon, which is why I am 100% certain that you are NOT LEBANESE!.

dear kelly,

before rocky get a chance to read this joke of a comment and make you look like an idiot as he have done so many times before, let me have a small and simple input myself.

we dont need gypsy, you or anyone to certify anything to us thank you oh so much, we are more then aware of who we are and what are our problems.

regarding the facebook channels, who made facebook a benchmark for testing lebanese loyalties or political views.

i my self own one of those 10's groups and i did it to meet girls because the other channels were too crowded, does that mean that in a party that fight males ( i dont get it ). even if we all beleived that this is a sectarian thing on facebook, are you telling me that if i typed , republicans, labor party, democrates i will not find anything... guess what! i found alot!!!

and 7abibi, saying your lebanese doesnt make you lebanese.how you act and talk defines you as who you are and beleive me if you say the sh*t ure saying in lebanon...let me put it this way, the next time you get a chance to migrate,do us all a favor and simply go for it so that people like me and rocky may find it easier to bash you as a western person.

and finally when you said that rocky have enough time to follow threads and copy past. MY GOD! have you actually said that. shall i remind you what was the name of the prick who did the exact same to me oh wait actually it was worse cz this prick copied from a diff topic not the same one as rocky did.

7abibi plz plz stop making it so dam easy for pple like me to make a fool out of you. while debating or arguing i like things to be a bit hard, its like youre telling us please guys come and bash me!

now i will leave the real bashing for my good friend rocky that i cant even imagine how he is going to reply.

so take it away rocky and if your sleeping dont forget to do this first thing in the morning right after coffee.

you and other participants in this thread. Please please please. Tell those guys and the Austalian/Lebanese lady - who did not mention the "Lebanese back" syndrome in Australia - that you certify Lebanon is the best, ideal, wonderful country on earth planet and that Lebanese guys are the most talented, elite, smart, eligant, sexy, pretigeous, classy guys on earth. And that Lebanese girls are the most beautiful, elegant, wonderful, fun, lovely, charming females on earth planet. And in general the Lebanese people do like each other and help each other and are so peaceful and are in accord all the time

We are the perfect people living in the perfect country. Nothig is wrong with us or our country.

So there is nothing to criticize and nothing to comment about our country.

That smart guy commented on many points that I have raised but he did not come across why there are 10s of "Lebanese in Qatar" groups in facebook. And the imperialist/zionist conspiracy leading to seggregation of Lebanese inside facebook into various groups.

My God. This thread is like the "deaf dialogue". You ask them about types of tomatoes, they answer about Italian cars. So I recommend that you - Gypsy - and other pals not to waste your time here.

Again, the toddlers will say that am denying my origin and neglecting my country. Am 1000% proud of my country. I was given the chance many times to migrate to various countries and get a different passport but I refused.

So basically that big long speech that you just wrote means that you can't back up what you say. That you're just spouting off and when called on it you resort to personal attacks. Really that's pretty pathetic.

You could have just answered my question about why you think saying something negative about your home country is a bad thing and saved yourself a lot of typing. Instead you're trying to look smart and make me look bad. Nice try. However the real way to look smart is to answer my question, rather then resort to immature personal attacks.

Really personal attacks are basically admitting defeat. The swan song of the loser so to speak.

Gypsy my Dear I really don't have time to sit here and explain every little thing to you, particularly those that are obvious.

I have seen a few of your posts around and starting to understand what is going on here. Firstly, you clearly have waaaaay too much time on your hands, much more than most people on QL. Secondly, your posts always seem immflammatory and stubborn, with a hint of resentment towards men, and/or gender identity issues. Finally your contradictions and misreferences are simply tiring. Why must we say and repeat so much for you to comprehend but a little?

In your last post, you claimed that I have not backed up my claims. Please for the sake of us all, explain to me beforehand exactly what I have not backed up? Should I have to support the fact that Unpatriotic sentiment is a negative quality? I think that is excepted by all the folks on this Thread. If you believe contrary to the norm, then I would kindly ask for your justifications.

For your sake as much as ours, I recommend that you have a think about how to improve you communication skills, and really think for a moment about what excatly people are trying to say to you, rather than focusing only on your immediate interpretation of what they have written.

Secondly I recommend a bit of soul searching. Your posts seem to be an attempt for people to view you in a particular way, genderless, forceful and independant. It has the stale resemblance of a mid last century feminism campaign. When people try so hard to project a particular self image, it is usually the image they would like people to see them as, rather than who they really are. I have often interpretted this as lonliness or a cry for help.

Peace

All the best, thanks for such a sweet post.

Who was the guy asking about comedy? We have awesome comedy, mostly around politics and culture. Yeah we laugh at ourselves but perhaps not in the hatefully way that we are often laughed at by foreigners. Our jokes revolve more around the perculiarities of life and family relations, and incidents that might not occur except in our culture.

An Awesome Show, La Youmal on the Al-Mustaqbal (Future) network which is a political programme that makes hilarious jokes even about the polticians that it supports. Also Abu Riad, hehehe, I laugh just hearing his name, a show about a peculiar old guy.

FMINKARA, LMAO!, man uyou had me laughing for ten minutes. What an honest post I loved it STraight from the heart.. We gotta meet for a drink someday man.

Rocky if you can't back up what you say with some kind of rational or argument then you shouldn't say it. Even kindergardners know not to make an argument without some kind of proof to back it up. Common sense really.

Also, why do people assume I have anything against Lebanese? The title of the thread is "Why do Ex-pats hate Lebanese?" I gave my opinion of why, which is that many of you have a tendency to talk to much about your country (in fact some of you are incapable of talking about anything else)and that you tend to act superior to others, especially other Arab ex-pats. This can be very annoying to some people.

Many Americans have a tendency to act the same way when overseas, and we all know how much they are liked.

I never met a Lebanese person but like to learn about different cultures.

I disagree with your comment. In the UK comedians choose various subject matter. Mostly they avoid ridiculing non-British nationalities, though sometimes they specialise in targeting their own culture/subculture.

I'm sorry, but how is this sentence "Posting negative aspects about one's country on a public forum is on the otherhand, very unpatriotic." an explanation?? You didn't explain at all why you think being unpatriotic is bad, you simply said it is, Perhaps you need to look about the word explanation in the dictionary.

Also, please read my post, I was simply saying that saying constant positive things about ones country can get irritating to others. It is fine to like your country but when it is the only thing you are capable of talking about, it can become boring to some.

Gypsy my dear, I remember specifically explaining in a very long post why exactly I think it's unpatriotic.

If you really need it I would be glad to repeat myself, but in a day and age of modern computing I think it will suffice if you simply read it as I just wrote it originally. (Please scroll up about 10cm - 20cm and read carefully). If you have any difficulties, please let me know and I would be glad to do a quick copy and paste of the relevant statements.

Furthermore..At what point was I talking about how great we are? Are we reading the same post?

Finally, "trying to pass it off as the greatest place on earth and the people the greatest on earth is a tad unrealistic", where do I start? Hehe..

Yes, I genuinely believe that it is the greatest country on earth, and more so for it's people. You might say to each his own. Curiously, what country are Lebanese people supposed to like more? In your opinion?

By Gypsy• 7 Aug 2007 14:28
Gypsy

Why is it unpatriotic to say something negative about your own country? Personally I would say turning a blind eye to the problems in your country and pretending everything is A-ok is more unpatriotic because that doesn't solve any of the problems. Also nobody in the world wants to hear constant positive remarks about a country or nationality. Constantly talking about how great you are makes me think you have a bit of an inferiority complex (which is the impression I get from many Lebanese), I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Lebanon or Lebanese people, but trying to pass it off as the greatest place on earth and the people the greatest on earth is a tad unrealistic.

Reading most of your posts I can see that most of you are quite sensible rational people without any particular Grudge against the Lebanese. I was very pleased when I read this post and seeing that it hasnt been hijacked and used as a chance to take nasty swipes at my nationality.

I have to add my name to the list though (sadly) of people who have been the target of discrimination, sometimes in the strangest of means, and sometimes even from other Lebanese.

I think many of them have learned a lesson through the many posts who have preceeded this one. Many Nasty things were said even on this site, and I am glad they were corrected.

"FMinkara". It does seem to draw attention when somebody knows our origin. Usually you find those who use that as a chance to bite at you are acting out of some deficiency in their own life / identity.

You will find some people hell bent on giving you a hard time based on who you are. I deal with this as I see fit, nicely if possible.

"KellyHero"- In response to some of your awfully negative and uneccesary comments:

Comment- "Truth hurts"

Response- Based on the discussion on this thread, there seems to be no lack of truth, nor any need for anybody to be hurting anyone.

Comment- "Critisizing self before critisizing others does not mean one is not patriotic."

Response- Self reflection is important for the progress and rationality of any intellectual person / people. Posting negative aspects about one's country on a public forum is on the otherhand, very unpatriotic.

Comment- "Some guys here talk about "Lebanese engineers do not live 6 in a room" somewhere else. In our country some people are searching the trash to eat. Nothing to hide." -

Response- Well done! Where is the grace and charm that we are famous for? In what country are people not searching through the trash for food? Nonetheless there are good reasons why people do not air their dirty laundry in public.

Comment - "If you read Lebanese newpapers or watch tv you will see ads by banks financing plastic surgery."

Response- Another unusually negative and very unnecessary remark. If you watch a show called "Judge Judy"(USA), or "Ripley's Believe it or not" you will get and equally strange picture about americans, not to mention what "The Toyko Shock Boys" will make you assume of Japan... etc.

Comment- You toddlers are a shame to my country but I have to admit that you hold the same nationality that I hold.

Response- If your identity is such a burden that you must "admit" to it, then I invite you to surrender your ID/Passport to the Interior Ministry or at the nearest Lebanese embassy, and find a country where you feel more at home. I hear alot of Western countries will be glad to take you in and give you a Citizenship. They need people like you to do the work that their citizens don't want to do. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

Comment- You guys when you meet a new Lebanese fellow, your first question is "from which part of Lebanon you are" if you did not get a clue about his religion, you start asking more specific questions to know his/her religion and sect. then the next step is start asking to which political group you belong."

Response- This has come up many times before in previous posts and is absolute Rubbish. This is an old relic that has long passed. If I want to know more about someone its because:

1) To see if we are related;

2) To ensure that this person really is Lebanese. After all we have over half a million foreigners in our country, many of whom have received citizenships as a result of foreign influence, which is in any case completely in violation of our laws.

3) This is a practice common in the middle east (less so in modern Lebanon) and is not to perpetrate discimination.

Please lets avoid making these assumptions anymore.

Comment- Guys. Please ask yourself what's wrong with you before asking and blaming others about your tragedy and crisis. Grow up.

Response- I am hoping this doesn't mean what I think it means.. In any case the Lebanese have a very legitimate claim when it comes to foreign interference with tragic consequences. No Lebanese from any political alignment would deny this.

Peace...

I agree that there were a couple of times when I have been "warned" from "cunning Lebanese who would sell you the moon/stars/air with their sweet lips and who would cheat/lie all the time just to rip off your money...etc" but these things were said in front of other Lebanese friends & in a funny/teasing way. There was no hatred or discrimination when it was said. I don't think that people/expats hate Lebanese! Why should we. There is the good, the bad, the ugly..in every nation :-)

fminkara,

when you say "from what i see u r a syrien person or else and u really hate the lebanese people" then you are also assuming that all syrians hate lebanese, which I disagree with. You are simply parcticing the same topic of this thread, but against syrians! Right?

You also said that

"those who deny thier origin are less of people( more like animals they don't know who there father is and where are they from all what they care about is food and ...."

LOL...this is funny...it reminds me if a thread (Polygamy in North America). Some people will disagree with you about not knowing their fathers & comparing this to animals :-) ...go read that thread...

asamarji,

I guess you have put your hands on some of the reasons that makes the Lebanese different/unique ("because we dress nice or because we have beautiful women")....so I guess some might not like it that the Lebanese women (and the whole society in general) lead a very "open" life style and they get provoked with the "very open" dresses that these women wear ;-) (no offense, dear)

But seriously, I think that some of the things you pointed out can perfectly answer fminkara/the question of this topic.

Here goes:

1."wut really seriously pisses me off are the lebanese that have western nationality and think that they are better then lebanese.

just shows how ignorant they are"

2."i cant stand a person saying am canadian lebanese or australian lebanese or french lebanese...its either your lebanese or not"

3."alot of pple are loosing interest in saying " i am lebanese ".

4."alot of lebanese join gangs and start doing really nasty things. If a lebanese was to act in that manner, he/she shouldnt be called lebanese"

Lebanese are generally nice people. I mostly enjoy the Lebanese senior citizens. They have so much manner, education, fun, and full of lovely old stories about Lebanon in the good old days.

Don't worry about some ignorant idividuals who haven't learned, yet, to appreciate Lebanese people. I also hope that you guys look at Palesineans, Jordanians, Syrians...etc with love & respect.

Cheers!

Every person having a problem is throwing it on others.

If you check facebook you will notice how many "Lebanese in Qatar" groups are there. Guess the Americans and the Western World and The Israelis are behind this "conspiracy".

Critisizing self before critisizing others does not mean one is not patriotic. Every person is proud of his country but one has to be realistic and know where he stands.

Some guys here talk about "Lebanese engineers do not live 6 in a room" somewhere else. In our country some people are searching the trash to eat. Nothing to hide. Everything is in the media.

If you read Lebanese newpapers or watch tv you will see ads by banks financing plastic surgery.

You toddlers are a shame to my country but I have to admit that you hold the same nationality that I hold.

Now am thinking. Is there a special mark on our forehead saying "Lebanese" and once people see that mark start fighting you and hating you.

You guys when you meet a new Lebanese fellow, your first question is "from which part of Lebanon you are" if you did not get a clue about his religion, you start asking more specific questions to know his/her religion and sect. then the next step is start asking to which political group you belong.

I am Lebanese and grew up in a western country and not everything is black and white....and no we arent all pretentious...I proudly say I'm Lebanese but i have a lot of western influence as well...and to be honest theres a lot of positives/negatives in both cultures.

If i behave western in a certain way it doesnt mean im tuning my back on my culture . Whats wrong in taking the good things from both cultures..Especially if u r living in that country.

and they are all very nice people. they seem more western/european than other arabs, that's for sure.

in my experience, there are people in every country who think they are better than other nationalities. i won't deny that egyptians face some discrimination is some parts of the world, but there was no shortage of them while i was living in cairo who discriminated against africans.

there are racists in every culture that i have seen, unfortunately. i see it here too.

IMHO - part of the problem is that many don't take responsibility for their problems, or their country's problems. it's easier to blame others around you. some people in western countries do it when they blame immigrants for all their ills. some arabs do it when they blame all arab wars/problems on the west. discrimating against others makes people feel superior and it's easier than facing reality.

asamarji-

Obviously you are not Lebanese since you live off of Qatari's. If you want to be "pure" Lebanese go back to Lebanon.

Whats wrong with someone embracing their new home? So what if someone wants to speak English or French? It does not make them any less of who they are.

These men can dress any way they want- isn't wearing pants and dress shirt and tie from the west- brought to Lebanon during the days of the Colonies?

the problem is simple.

the value of the word lebanese is degrading to a comon thing.

alot of pple are loosing interest in saying " i am lebanese ".

this fact need to be fought in anyway possible.

i love my country and my countrymen/women and i hate seing them get into this vortex.

lebanese pride needs to be restored to its fullest so that lebanon may survive.

well sorry if u miss understood my words am not talking about the locals. if the other EX-PATS hate us because all the locals i meet in the arab regions love and respect us and we love and respect them too.

for translating my arabic: those who deny thier origin are less of people( more like animals they don't know who there father is and where are they from all what they care about is food and ....).

Sorry to hear your story, Asamarji:(( alot of pretentious and liars in Doha. At least you got some lessons in life, next time you rent from someone regardless of their nationality even locals, make sure you take everything you paid in writing.

Anyway, i'm sure Allah will return it to you in double amount or maybe triple, you believe that?

its not a society problem its an individual issue.

let me give you a small example.

some time ago i visited ausi to see some friends (lebanese origin ).

when i started talking in arabic they said nooooooo we are australian and in this house we dont speak arabic we only speak english.

now my reaction was turning my back and going away. either you are a lebanese with all what the lebanese word stands for or your not.

their is no middle ground.

i cant stand a person saying am canadian lebanese or australian lebanese or french lebanese.

its either your lebanese or not or say that your a lebanese with a canadian passport else say your a canadian and get it over with but never ever think that you have the right to discuss a labnese related issue with me ever again.

By fminkara• 7 Aug 2007 01:05

once again KellysHeroes i really loved the way u have a discussion throwing lies and calling people name and once again without any bases and once again u attack ur country (if ur lebanese) from what i see u r a syrien person or else and u really hate the lebanese people or maybe ur lebanese when ur dad !!!! i really don't but i can tell u one thing if u really hate lebanese this much why are u calling ur self lebanese not something else i don't know become and american citezen or canadian or some europian country y are u forcing ur self to be lebanese change ur nationality if ur think ur better !!! anyway the next time try to be more patriotic if u know what this word means

If you don't want to be one of them then leave their country and stop taking their money. You are working and living in a foreign country- get over yourself. And your Arabic makes no sense to me- I can't read it the way you typed it.

What a way to have a discussion " replies are not accepted."

well honestly i solved the problem couple of days back.

i just fiered some and switched the rest to other departments.

i think it takes more then couple of liars to send me home PAL.

come to think of liars, last month a guy called richard african american married to a philipino girl and have couple of kids rent me a room, took the freaking deposit and flew out of the country with my money and left me to fight with the qatari owner.

now this richard guy is the first american i do business with, can i generalize here or what?

Lebanese Asamarji said that they are better, beautiful, classy than other Arabs, but then one Lebanese w/ Canadian passport he met a day before said to him that he is better classy than the other lebanese?

Dude, sorry to ask this, dont you see the problem within your society?

Anyway, i'm enjoying listening now to my fave Lebanese singer(Nancy A.) "Inta Aih" :))))))

It is hard to overcome liars in your life. I know exactly how it feels when different people repeatedly lie to you and are all from the same group of people. It is very difficult to not generalize because of them.

Wht don't you confront these liars in a mature and honest way?

I see this debate without any grounds or foundation.

Never felt that we are hated mentioned above. On the contrary, we are always greeted and respected like any other nationality.

I notice a contradition in fellow Lebanese posts. One guy is talking about being hated (acting like the Jews vs Nazis) and other guy talking about superiority of Lebanese (Nazi thinking).

For God's sake. I never recall a single Lebanese girl who won Miss World contest. Only one who won Miss Universe (her mother ws Bulgarian).

We dress well? what about Italians and French for example.

Currently, we have the highest rate and guess we have achieved a world record for plastic surgery to the extent that Lebanese banks are now financing such surgeries.

Unfortunately, some Lebanese think that "God created us and broke the mould" and here we are facing a specimen of such mentalities.

You hate when Lebanese act western and then hate is when they act like locals in UAE? Not everyone can be an exact mold of you!

asamarji- I cannot stand it when people lie non-stop. I sympathize with you on that one. Although I have not dealt with one specific set group of people who lie, my husband has and unfortunately does not trust a certain nationality. Hopefully it was just a bad example as it is hard to believe an entire population are liars and cheaters.

where the bad west! review history alexa.

this is not science fiction, this is fact.

you actually think that all the wars that has been faught in the arabic regions were just for the fun of it while the west sat and enjoyed the view. my friend why dont you get real?

this area main cancer(israel), isnt that enough west intervention in our affairs. not to mentions anything else ( iraq, iran, bin laden, sovient union, etc.. etc.. etc..)

as for lebanese with western nationality, i met some lebanese canadian guy the other day and he started by saying that his canadian passport made him more classy then the regular lebanese.

thats the reason i said what i said becausei know that alot of pple think like that (sadly).

As an asian expat, i noticed that all of you have something in your country and culture that you can be proud of!:)))

There is no difference. They are all from the same race, they speak same language and generally have same religion. When US finishes with its mid east agenda, maybe map of Middle East will not be the same as we know now and which ever country merges with the other shall become one. Bottom line is all arabs are same. There are same qualities (pls. read opposite) present in all of them.

Who cares how they dress- maybe they dress like locals because it is more comfortable and a way to stay more cool. The point is, you judged them on how they dressed- not the other way around.

I don't understand what you are saying about the ID- doesn't make sense to me the way it is worded. Please explain.

its like its in their genetics to lie or something.

i donno how to explain this. maybe its in my head but ive worked with these pple in KSA, Dubai and now qatar.

and all of them and beleive me i know alot of them LIE non STOP whenever they can as if its air they breath.

do you know of who i am talking about?

The most important point I have found is that the JORDANIAN/palistanian consider the GULF as their own country, and behave as if we are invading it. To go into further detail they try to act, dress and talk like the gulf people(I saw them in UAE) and one of them even said that because they can't have an ID in qatar they are bringing lebanese and phelipino... and that was on my second day in QATAR what a way to say welcome consider yourself at home. What I as expecting was more like "Welcome to this country, join us and make yourselves at home".

Being polite to your face and a dirty talker behind your back, has nothing to do with a certain nationality.

It is something you see people do to others of the same nationality or different nationalities.

It is a ridiculous vice which reflects weakness, lack of confidence and inability to confront and express one’s self appropriately.

i've also noticed that fminkara and like you am trying to figure out why. this is a very important disscussion here.

i am facing this problem with other nationalities(am not gonna mention who) they say one thing in your face and talk durty about you once you turn your back. one time i over heard them.

this is where the saying( el mou3amaleh mitil el rassor ).

i can see it in alot of pple eyes, this strange hate or envy.

i simply want to know why?

i realize that every nationality is unique but i sense this targetting toward lebanese. is it because we dress nice or that we get the good jobs.

or is it because we have beautiful women or is it class related issue.

i just cant pintpoint it exactly but its really annoying. although i have met some other nationalities guys that i take pride in calling them my brother but as for the majority, its just crazy out their.what do you think?

Mr. fminkara, are you sure w/ your feelings? maybe you are just too paranoid??? :D

Well, i know somehow you are right in some point. But actually they all hate each others, there is no unity of Arab in the Middle East, even the Gulf states. Everyone is jealous from one another, and ALL of them think that they're great and better than the others. But the reality, they all have their own unique qualities.

Dont you think that its time for all Arabs to unite and help each others?

Btw, dont forget to mention the Syrians:))

I am Egyptian, well traveled. I haven’t seen discrimination against me due to my nationality neither have it crossed my mind "hating" or looking down at a person based on their nationality or what country they come from.

I know the political situation sometimes tense and heats things up. It makes one, sometimes, all worked up against certain countries/nationalities. But that should not justify hatred.

I, for one, have Lebanese, Palestinian, Qatari, American, Syrian, Egyptian, Pakistani and Iraqi friends/acquaintances.

Maybe your personal experience was not all that good?

I find Lebanese people, whom I met, very nice and they love life and full of life too.

All the best
