Router Config problems- need help
Hi,
I’m using a HP dv6000 laptop and I have a 3com router. The problem is that it takes ages to connect to the router. Sometimes I have to spend hours trying to connect n all, If I use my laptop on any other router like linksys else where I’ve got no issues …it connects immediately. I don’t understand where the problem is? I’m using Vista ultimate it never use to happen when I was using XP. I’ve updated the driver also from the hp site…. but still no use... any suggestions???
My laptop is still under warranty. Any other questions you would like to ask I’ll reply here.
PLZ GO TO UR GATEWAY ADRESS(USUALLY 192.168.1.1), GO TO WIRELESS OPTION AND U MUST FIND A SETTING CALLED NETWORK AUTHENTICATION.THERE R MANY METHODS AND SOME R NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SUM LAPTOPS.THE MOST RECOMMENDED ONE IS WPA2 AND WPA(PSK).PLZ SELECT THIS, RESTART UR ROUTER, UR LAPTOP AND C IF IT WORKS.THANK YOU
Why did you buy it? Maybe cos you took advise from someone who has successfully deployed a 3Com router and working without any problem!
I guess it is just an one-off case where the router might be having a hardware problem.
Try to identify your Intel Wifi Hardware on you laptop and update the software directly from Intel's website instead of HP's. Also check for an update of router's firmware from 3Com website, such issues are generally listed and resolved on respective websites.

I think its somethin to do with the 3com router only.. itz a bit wiered as its somethin like a software system sometimes not recognizing/ responding to the hardware.. I'll try it with the MAc address thing.. n c if it works out well.. coz there are many pc's or laptops I use with it. its juss a pain in the ass adding Mac addresses..newayz thanx for the suggestion.. will try this... but I mean y? n the earth did I pick up this router...I could have gone with linksys... damn.. anywayz will pay 400 more n get a new linksys one..if it does not solve the issue...
cheers!
I used to have the same problem connecting my Axim PDA with 3com router. I think it's something to do with encryption, i don't remember what i did to solve the problem, but in the 3com router, i disabled encryption, restrict access by MAC and broadcast.
now Axim connect seamlessly with the router.
hope that helps..
