Beware of people posting in the classified ads here in Qatar Living Website. Some of them are posting things to sell and are located out of this country. They would ask you to pay them thru money order and once you paid them they wouldn't send you the item or they would send you the wrong item. I discovered someone selling a brand new laptop worth 1,000usd and stating the specs. I researched about the laptop and the brand new one costs around 11,000QR here in Qatar which is equivalent to around $2000++. He asks me to send the money to Nigeria thru money order. In his dreams!!! Id rather buy my laptop here!
Just drop the PM to Ahmd or Qatari wth the link to the ads or the user name. They will sort it out for you.
My experience is they are liars, cheats and thieves.
Having gone to Dubai on my first visit to the GCC countries, I stayed with a friend, her boyfriend was a Nigeriean. Upon returning to Europe I found that my account had been debited to the amount of Euro 4,000 which had been dedcuted from Dubai.
I did not spend the money but investigations revealed that the Nigerian boyfriend had used my credit card.
I am lucky because the credit card company believed mainly because I never shop over Euro 1,000,-- in all the time I have had the credit card.
It is a case of be aware!!!
Some scammers such as [email protected] posting tens of ads and filling mainly on the first page. It is really wasting our time/bandwith while tracking the ads we need.
This scammer seem never giving-up. They have high patience to always keep posting because they get return of their act.
Is possible for the moderator/owner to delete their account, so they will not post again?.
I know they can create new account and continue their action. But again their account can be deleted. Just keep an eye on new classifieds for newly registered member.
I can help to monitor and sure others can do so, if requested.

Qatari is aware of this problem and has this warning placed above the classified section. So you have been warned.

Ebay seller scam
This scam involves eBay or Craigslist (here Qatarliving) and the appeal of high priced goods, usually electronics, for a bargain price. A seller will advertise an item (usually a digital camera, laptop computer, plasma TV, video game console, or cell phone) at a very low cost (usually about 1/3 of the normal retail price). The body of the ad instructs buyers to contact the seller directly outside of Qatarliving using a Yahoo or Hotmail web-based free e-mail account. When contact is made, the seller gives a long story about his problems receiving payment by Paypal. The seller insists that the buyer send money by Western Union. The allure is that the product is a huge bargain (e.g. a $2000 item for only $700). If money is sent, it is gone forever and no product is ever delivered. The phony seller usually has a list of prepared e-mails to respond quickly to questions from buyers. He'll go on and on about how his integrity is important, how he wouldn't risk his family's name, his legitimacy, check his feedback, etc. The phony seller sometimes boosts credibility by using a real eBay ID to list the item. The real ID has been stolen from a legitimate seller with good feedback, usually by means of e-mail phishing.
As all Qlers, we are interested in anything classified on the website, but we just cuss when we find out its n US dollars, or the telephone number is made up of 21 numbers....

having been to heaps of countries in Africa i can only Xena's sentiments.
The Nigerians are universally treated with suspision and seen as dodgy or shifty (as they say in east africa) and feature in the crime pages of many african dailies.
The first piece of advice i was given on my first visit to the majestic continent was at jo'burg bus station by a zimbabwean , 'never trust and nigerian and you will be fine - welcome to africa'
Equally disliked in Africa are chinese engineers.
However I am not going to buy a fish in the see
coming from a country where Nigerians are known for their scamming and killings, this is one culture that really seems to live up to their reputation as scammers... Anything that says Nigeria... BEWARE
Stay away from ALLLLLLL Nigerian deals.
I know it's sad to say that, but I GUARANTEE you'll be scammed.
