Hi all,

Do you think - US$75,000/= (75,000 US Dollar = 276,795 Qatari Rial) yearly package is enough to survive and save some money? Or- how much can I save? I just got married and no kids yet.

Thanks and really appreciate any information.

Philbel is quite right. Saving is really a matter related to your personal lifestyle. Normal groceries and outings for 2 might cost between 3000 to 5000 a month (with no smoking and drinking). Then you have transportaion (depending on the type of car you get) anywhere between 2000 to 3000 a month. Then that's it, depending where your home base is for taxation purposes, as previously stated.

So thats about 18000 QR per month? I earn around the same and my husband and I are able to save. We are also Australians. It depends on how much you like to eat out etc. We are able to save pretty well when we are not travelling. We've been to Europe 3 times this year and have still put some cash away. Your housing is included, so as long as this package is about what you would earn at home before tax then it is enough for you and your wife.

Errrr ... the entire amount is not taxable.

The changes meant that everything over 82.5k is now taxed at high rate AS IF you were being taxed on the whole lot. It used to be as if your 82.5k was the first dollar you earned so it would all be on low rates.

But yes, it does suck for Americans.

Nice! If they're including your housing and such, and you're single, I think you'd have a good position.

You quoted the price in USD, and mentioned govt. job. I'm going to warn you right now. If you are an American passport holder, beware that the United States is the only industrialized country in the world which levies income tax on expats. And the laws got worse thanks to the xenophobic vision of Our Head Idiot. Everything is taxable--your housing, your insurance, your benefits, everything. If you go over 82,500, the entire amount is taxable, not just the excess not covered in the 82,5. You'll be in a high tax bracket. Oh, you'll still get a good salary, plus the fact that you are getting out of the States, but realize that you're going to donate a huge chunk back to the US Government for purposes of supporting the war.

Point is just beware you're not going to keep all that.

Thanks for some good replies.

Current situation: It's a government job- offering 60,000 US Dollar = 218,472 Qatari Rial yearly + free 2 bedroom apartment + medical+ 45 days annual leave + yearly free ticket.

Yes, it's a Snr Database Administrator- Tech Lead position.

Is it a good offer?

Thanks and will appreciate any information.

Provat, as ever in Doha, it all depends if this includes housing. Good luck.

Sure it depands on your spending habits. But for 2 persons with such salary you wll be able to save 20000-3000 dollars a month in case that you rented a nice small villa and your are spending well on your foodstuff and other living needs. I hope that is enough to answer your question.
